Carpe Rutila: Thursday, June 4th

http://seizethespade.blogspot.com/2009/06/thursday-june-4th.html

Thursday, June 4, 2009. Thursday, June 4th. Spring Fling May 28th - June 1st for me. Today: Worked on daylily bed. Weeds were getting too comfortable. Hit garage wall rocks with RoundUp, also edges of bed. Cut back GCP. Those poor GC Muhly are struggling. They were too root bound to buy, really. I dug them up, washed roots off and cut off matted parts. I replanted several closer to the trellis, where I piled the old mulch to make a raised bed area. Unseasonally cooler and drier air today!

Carpe Rutila: April 2008

http://seizethespade.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Earth Day Seems Like A Good Time . To post something here. Most of my blogging takes place over at From My Corner of Katy. I still haven't figured out what kind of gardening blog this one wants to be. Charming Mia Bella, a delightful Italian restaurant in downtown Houston. It was shiny and new then . they might not let it in the door now. I could post pithy garden sayings and witticisms. I could blog about gardening blogs and garden blogging. Posted by Cindy, MCOK.

Faire Garden: Interesting Insects

http://fairegarden.blogspot.com/2008/07/interesting-insects.html

Monday, July 7, 2008. We have been getting some visitors in the garden. Most of them can even fly in to have a look around. Some even let us get close enough to snap a photo. What colorful eyes he/she has. Maybe it was thought that the blue chair on the deck was water? This larger one is another story. Many attempts were made to get close enough to macro, but this is the best that could be done, using the zoom. Pretty interesting, don't you agree? Ah, staying put if not holding still on the. Is this Blac...

Faire Garden: July 2008

http://fairegarden.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 21, 2008. It is early morning and we are going out the back door to have a walkabout the garden, as we try and do every single day. We have had some rain recently so says the dragonfly's flagon. Good deal. That means the plants should be pert and perky. Off we go! On the tomatoes, with the arborvitae behind, someone has been a busy spider. You have created a vision of beauty Ms. Arachnid. Very geometrical. Down in the area we call the flat garden where the old gravel driveway of the house ne...

Faire Garden: A Little Whimsy In The Garden

http://fairegarden.blogspot.com/2008/07/little-whimsy-in-garden.html

Thursday, July 17, 2008. A Little Whimsy In The Garden. Our story opens in the maternity ward under the deck at Faire Garden General. Mister and Missus Bongo Congo are beyond excited, for her sand has broken. A little even splashed up onto her cheek. Mister looks a little worried, but she assures him that everything will be okay. The demure lady Catherine was from a hot, dry windy place and felt comfortable up in the knot garden among the thyme. Chemistry drew them to each other, it was undeniable. Final...

Faire Garden: Veggie Harvest

http://fairegarden.blogspot.com/2008/07/veggie-harvest.html

Friday, July 4, 2008. Seeds were sown in May outside of zuchinni Eight Ball. This is a tasty and fun shaped variety. We have harvested several of these round beauties already. Another squash, Magda, has been bearing well also. This is a new variety, from Park seed, that was recommended in a talk that. Perennial pepper. Click. To read that story. It is back and some of the volunteers have flowers already. The little orange balls look good with the fall foliage. Besides the onions from seed, which are stil...

Faire Garden: Butterfly Bush Standards

http://fairegarden.blogspot.com/2008/07/butterfly-bush-standards.html

Thursday, July 10, 2008. A summertime delight of the Faire Garden is the butterfly bush,. Although considered an invasive in some areas, we have not found them to be difficult to control. The height, up to ten feet unpruned, adds great vertical interest to the shrub border. But we prefer to grow them as standards, removing the lower limbs and giving the one trunk a strong metal stake for support of the large trusses of small flowers. A bumblebee is enjoying. Red blooms. We are growing. Is a bit of a misn...
