The Self-Righteous Commuter

Friday, April 15, 2011. 4,000 and Counting. Soremember how my route got washed out, shut down, flooded over, and otherwise closed earlier this week? Well, check it out today in the later afternoon. Camel's Hump to my left. A freshly flooded and richly river-fertilized field to my right. And open road (with an open bridge) ahead. What a difference a couple days and an extremely active downriver dam make! And, oh, yeah - I hit 4,000 miles today for the school-commuting season. That wasn't bad, either.

The Self-Righteous Commuter: Gravel Grinder

http://www.selfrighteouscommuter.blogspot.com/2011/04/gravel-grinder.html

Monday, April 11, 2011. So, yesterday I rode with my buddy Pete in a spring "Gravel Grinder," down in Waterbury. The ride was graciously and expertly put on by Five Hills Bikes. (I "borrowed" the above photo off their site. Check out the link and read about what they've got going on.). What an awesome event! Thanks, Five Hills, for a phenomenal Sunday morning ride. The Self-Righteous Commuter: Black Ice Belly Dance

http://www.selfrighteouscommuter.blogspot.com/2011/04/black-ice-belly-dance.html

Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Black Ice Belly Dance. Spring in Vermont - ah, yes. The days grow longer and the birds sing songs in the early morning, just before light breaks over the mountains to the East. Music to my ears. And so, one might think, that the temperatures, too, grow warmer as the days of April pass one after another. One would be wrong. At least, one would be wrong these last few days. And so it was this morning. I opted for the Cross-Check and a bit of caution. No problem. Without? I thought...

The Self-Righteous Commuter: Sunny Saturday and Sleeting Monday

http://www.selfrighteouscommuter.blogspot.com/2011/04/sunny-saturday-and-sleeting-monday.html

Monday, April 4, 2011. Sunny Saturday and Sleeting Monday. After a couple days of lots of city walking and a bus ride through the night, we returned to EMS and I re-loaded the Bailey for the return 19 miles on a brilliant Saturday morning - sun bursting through the clouds for a couple hours and me on heavenly Vermont country roads after 72 hours of city traffic. What a coming home gift. Cold again. Sleet throughout the day and a face full of rain on the ride home. Still Vermont. Still heavenly.

The Self-Righteous Commuter: Winds Shift, Waters Fall, and Riders Ride

http://www.selfrighteouscommuter.blogspot.com/2011/04/winds-shift-waters-fall-and-riders-ride.html

Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Winds Shift, Waters Fall, and Riders Ride. SoMonday afternoon the winds were a blowing home. Tuesday morning they were a blowing against me on the ride in. But what a terrific sky to enjoy with all the colors painting the sky. Most days, this is a bone dry dam. No kidding - pale, bleached, white stone. And on the north side.a truly tumultuous river raged. Blow, wind, blow. Run, river, run. Ride, rider, ride. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 4,000 and Counting.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of a DPT. Soapstone 2011- Macerated Head to Toe. It occured to me that I was like a macerated wound as I was running down a creek-bed, ankle high in water, with rain that had surpassed the “falling” criteria and was more like buckets being poured on me. My fingers were swollen and the skin on my finger tips was white and puckered. My shorts were so wet they were almost falling off (good thing I was alone most of the time)! Before photo, taken by Scott Livingston! This is a t...

The Self Righteous Cyclist. Boston cycling at its smuggest. August 26, 2011. I’ve been noticing on the Twitter-O-Sphere that people are having trouble with the GPS files for D2R2. Fear not, dear children, as I have re-mapped GPS files based off of the posted cue sheet. Since I have a Garmin Edge 500, which sometimes does not play nicely with courses over 50 miles, I have mapped each stage individually. You can export them as .gpx, .tcx, or .kml files. Self Righteous Indignation

Enjoy your ego trip. The American Report Card. I was recently prompted by a message board on myspace (of all places) for a group of impressionable young minds seeking truth, honor and justice in the world in which they lived. A single post, laden with the concept that Congress was attempting to force political bloggers to register with the government and would be jailing those who refused. A terrible blow to civil rights, correct? It would be if it were at all true. It's easy to criticize the government ...
