Laquo; Cascadian Farm Celebrates Earth Day. Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Bridge Construction ». The aging and decrepit Sellwood Bridge is being replaced. Construction on the new bridge officially began on December 16, 2011 with a groundbreaking ceremony at Sellwood Riverfront Park. The current phase of the project involves contruction of temporary piers to the north of the existing bridge. The existing truss spans will be slid onto these temporary piers, creating a shoofly detour bridge.
