The do’s and don’ts of hot season in Dakar – Senegal Daily
https://senegaldaily.wordpress.com/2015/06/10/the-dos-and-donts-of-hot-season-in-dakar
The do’s and don’ts of hot season in Dakar. Take many quick showers. It’ll make you feel (temporarily) refreshed and also… you never know when the next water cut will be! Underestimate the power of a good fan aimed on you. Forget letting it oscillate. Point that sucker right at your face. Drink a LOT of water. If you’re not a fan of the clear stuff, try adding a splash of. To it or a squeeze of Casamance lime. Yum. Forget to make ice. It’s amazing how fast you go through it! Reconsider your pjs. What...
Senegal – Senegal Daily

When you look at a map of Africa, Senegal is on the very westernmost tip of the continent. So if this is the African continent…. Dakar became the capital in 1960 at the time of Senegal’s independence from France. It is currently the 34th most expensive large city in the world. According to the Global Peace Index. Senegal scored an 80 – slightly better than Bolivia, Brasil, the Ukraine and… get this… the US! There is only one medical practitioner per 10,000 people. Officially, Senegal is the. Just discove...
June is the worst. – Senegal Daily
https://senegaldaily.wordpress.com/2015/06/01/june-is-the-worst
June is the worst. Pape and Shawn last summer. I was standing behind them when I looked down and saw his boots. Big, huge (like massively huge) leather boots. In the millisecond it took my mind to jump back to the time we put little baby Pape in one of those gigantic boots for a quick photo, my eyes started overflowing with tears. How is it possible that in one week they will disappear from our life here in Dakar? Lunch in Almadies recently. The guys opted out of photos. At my birthday lunch Jenn planned.

https://senegaldaily.wordpress.com/2015/06/28/moutarous-story-my-experience-as-a-talibe-in-senegal
Moutarou’s Story: My Experience as a Talibé in Senegal. An autobiographical account written by our friend and Wolof professor, Moutarou Diallo, who is a former talibé. In the Coran, the holy book of Muslims, you find the word. An Arabic word that means ‘student’, but it also means someone who studies the Coran. For the Wolof people, the main ethnic group in Senegal, receiving an Islamic education is important and as this tradition has developed, the word. Is managed by a. My Road to Becoming a Talibé.
Recipes – Senegal Daily

Below are some of our favorite Senegalese recipes, adapted for kitchens outside of West Africa. If you are in Senegal, you may be interested in Dakar Eats. There are about as many variations for spelling ceebu jenn (thieboudienne, thiep bu dinenne, ceebujenn…) as there are to making it. This rice (ceeb) and fish (jenn) recipe is the national dish of Senegal and can also be made with beef (ceebu yapp). If the dish looks familiar, it’s because it’s a descendent of paella. Ingredients for 4 people:. Dilute ...

Spanns on the Run: January 2011
http://spannsontherun.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 13, 2011. That flailing mass of purple you saw go flying? Yeah, that was me. You are totally the best neighbor ever. PS - You might want to be on the lookout for random snowballs being thrown your way tomorrow on your run. PPS - I probably shouldn't compose letters when I have an angry head injury. Wednesday, January 12, 2011. In all seriousness, I am ready to go back to work. I was actually hoping for a workday tomorrow - maybe Friday at this rate? MLK holiday on Monday) That is nuts.
Spanns on the Run: Squir-coonin'
http://spannsontherun.blogspot.com/2011/07/squir-coonin.html
Thursday, July 14, 2011. That got your attention, didn't it? Last weekend, my "Obel" and I joined our sweet friend Leigh at her family's house on Daufuskie Island just off of Hilton Head in South Carolina. We celebrated her birthday all weekend long with her friends Erin and Emily. You know I have stories to tell. But this is not the blog post for stories. This is an opportunity to share my extensive knowledge on squircoons. Squircoon Fact #1: Despite popular opinion, squircoons do not travel in pairs.
Spanns on the Run: Father's Day
http://spannsontherun.blogspot.com/2011/06/fathers-day.html
Sunday, June 19, 2011. I have to say a few words in honor of my Daddy-Man for Father's Day. First of all, the man should really be nominated for sainthood. Or some sort of "survivor" award. He managed to survive a household with FIVE women. 5! Until you've managed it yourself, you have no idea how much estrogen that is. No idea. Daddy Man with his girly girls - 11, 9, 7 and 1.5. Capt James Richard Boone. My Aunt Tanna recently posted the following:. Anything worth doing is worth doing right! A TobyMac-in...

The Purls of our Life: January 2011
http://thepurlsofourlife.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 30, 2011. A few finished monsters and so-called bear. The bear is somewhat questionable as he looks kinda funny, but it was my first bear, so hopefully I'll get better. I'm loving these monsters, so there will be many more to come! Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Sunday, January 23, 2011. A whole lot of nothin'. As I write, the girls are playing nicely (the majority of the time). Brynn is playing with Kenzie's toys and Kenzie is playing in the food container cabinet. There is somethi...Every...
BEYOND THE BORDERS: We went to Congress!
http://gandcborders.blogspot.com/2015/05/we-went-to-congress.html
Sunday, May 17, 2015. We went to Congress! Much of this past week was spent in the northern part of France, 10 minutes from the Belgium border as Glenn and I attended Le Congrès de la FEEBF, or the Federation of Evangelical Baptist Churches of France as we would say in English. Basically, the French Baptist Convention. There were some other folks with our organization at the meeting, along with the pastor from our local church and a woman from the congregation. Oh, how I enjoyed that! And the other from ...
Life Keeps Going.: Semester's Over!!
http://jmasson.blogspot.com/2010/12/semesters-over.html
And so do we. Thursday, December 16, 2010. Aunt Kari gave Renae a little trim a few weeks ago when they were in town! She stood so still. And no ears were chopped off. Have you met our chubby baby? He's living large still . . . And Uncle Trey is still Renae's BFF. Go figure. I'm sure lots of you saw these on Facebook, but here are my Christmas presents for the kids! Breakfast food out of felt was so easy to make. Seriously. You can see the tool is the famed "S" brand. Very upscale. Posted by The Massons.
Life Keeps Going.: December 2007
http://jmasson.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
And so do we. Thursday, December 27, 2007. Renae did end up giving us a Christmas present this year! On Christmas morning, Jesse and I were getting ready while Renae laid on her play mat. She has been able to roll to her side for quite awhile now, but as I was watching her that morning, she looked like she was going to roll even further and as I starred in amazement, she did it! Her fussing and when I went to check on her, she was facing the opposite direction. We have a somewhat mobile daughter! When Je...

the red bicycle: 2011.10
http://earlkai.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Life in small increments. From past to present. I brought home some cuties and beauties from Les Puces du Canal. A few Sundays ago. Some days, I go there and I don't see anything I want to take home - and that's okay, because half the fun is in looking (not just at the stuff, but also at the people). On this particular day, however, I kept finding things. Two pieces of cloth caught my eyes at the stall of one of the ladies in the hangar. Who specializes in laces and linens. People talk about recyling as ...

Senegal Corpie
Peace Corps in Senegal. Thursday, July 15, 2010. Of rain and lack of electricity. The rainy season is finally here, which is a big relief from the heat but it also means that my work starts to slow down as people go out to work in the fields. It is also my last three months here, which means I am doing a lot of winding-down myself. This is a region-wide initiative and I hope they shellers will be installed and functioning in time for peanut season in early October. Saturday, March 27, 2010. Girls' Leader...
