Del Norte al Sur: April 2011
http://nortealsur.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Del Norte al Sur. This used to be a travel blog, but I stopped traveling. So I guess it isn't about anything at all. Wednesday, April 20, 2011. It's over. I'm done. I'm writing this post in a Starbucks in San Jose, California. I figured that those of you reading my blog in places other than California would appreciate knowing I was no longer in Israel (or any other bizarre foreign country). Unfortunately, I did not have a camera between Jerusalem and California, so there isn't much to show from that time.

Del Norte al Sur. This used to be a travel blog, but I stopped traveling. So I guess it isn't about anything at all. Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Sneak Into Petra: It's Fun, Easy and Free! A couple of friends. Are gonna give this a shot. Wish them. The general lay of the land. Course. Just move downhill and you'll be fine. Heading down from the Amra Palace Hotel. There's a big rock. Canyon starts to narrow. Keep to the right as long as possible. You'll see Nabotean irrigation channels. Another couple of hundred...

Del Norte al Sur. This used to be a travel blog, but I stopped traveling. So I guess it isn't about anything at all. Monday, April 4, 2011. The second weekend of Michal's semester break we headed up north to visit one of her army buddies, Maya. It's very pretty up in the north, particularly just after winter rains. Elisheva, another Army buddy, tagged along. As you might expect, things got a bit silly. The girls were energetic and cheerful. Oh yeah, next stop Sochi. Sochi? I was having way too much fun.

Del Norte al Sur. This used to be a travel blog, but I stopped traveling. So I guess it isn't about anything at all. Saturday, February 27, 2010. La Barranca del Cobre. They say the best way to see La Barranca del Cobre (The Copper Canyon) is by train, so that's what I did. I was at the station at 5:30am. Such was the depth of my commitment. It was a pleasant enough sunrise. The first 3 hours are flat and agricultural. You cross a veeerrry looonnng bridge. And are quickly in the canyons themselves. I onl...

Del Norte al Sur. This used to be a travel blog, but I stopped traveling. So I guess it isn't about anything at all. Monday, November 29, 2010. Boquete, Panama: Christ, It's Rainy. We managed to squeeze in a tour of a local coffee plantation before the rain set in. Coffee likes mountains, so nice views were unavoidable. Coffee plants are surprisingly scrawny things. More like bushes or tall saplings. Coffee beans en vivo. After removing the covers, the beans dry outside for several weeks. It gets hot ins...

Del Norte al Sur. This used to be a travel blog, but I stopped traveling. So I guess it isn't about anything at all. Tuesday, May 18, 2010. Ciudad de Oaxaca: Monte Alban, Hierve el Agua. I didn't do all that much in Ciudad de Oaxaca. Tried to find a camera shop that could repair my camera. Failed. Thought about going to various gardens and museums. Didn't. Intended to try the local specialties: chocolate with chile powder (a drink) and deep fried ants (a tasty snack! Sure, boss, whatever you say. Ah, yes...

Del Norte al Sur. This used to be a travel blog, but I stopped traveling. So I guess it isn't about anything at all. Thursday, September 23, 2010. Tikal: More Pyramids, More Jungle. Teotihuacán was the subject of an earlier post. Right, so, let's get to the pyramids. I took a 5am bus and booked it into the site, so for the first half hour or so, I had the main plaza almost all to myself. The plaza continues to the left from the previous shot. Jesus Christ, it's a scary head. Everybody get in the car.

Del Norte al Sur. This used to be a travel blog, but I stopped traveling. So I guess it isn't about anything at all. Thursday, March 24, 2011. Back to Israel: Masada and the Dead Sea. After my little 3 week sojourn in the Sinai and Jordan, I returned to Jerusalem and Michal. Before I got to Jerusalem, though, I had to convince the Israeli border security that they ought to let me back in:. Where do you live in Israel? In Jerusalem, with my girlfriend.". Eyebrows rising in surprise: "You have a girlfriend?

Del Norte al Sur. This used to be a travel blog, but I stopped traveling. So I guess it isn't about anything at all. Saturday, October 30, 2010. On my last day in Cobán, though, I felt somewhat better and decided I might as well do something. Call it a test run before getting on an overnight bus. So off I went to the orchid nursery. One of their specialties is miniature orchids. Yes, that's a champagne cork. This, though, I remember is the biggest orchid in the world. Another tiny one (not my hand).
