It is impossible to rig oil prices, because oil prices are set via the free market on the futures exchange. OPEC is not that strong, as proven by their minority share of world oil production. We can counter OPEC through conservation. We can beat OPEC if we extract our oil reserves in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska. So, OPEC wins. There is no solution that offers significant short-term gains and will end our oil dependency. A federal open fuel standard violates free market principles.
