What Rachel's Reading: July 2009
http://whatrachelsreading.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 9, 2009. I'm starting to get way out there about my food. are you worried for me yet? The more I read, the more I am convinced that basically every culture has healthier food than Americans. The further back in history, the more nutritious the food. For example, if you go back several generations, women canned their own produce from their gardens. Better than supermarket food, right? I think most people who object to this book fall into two camps: either they are grossed out by the concept...

Saturday, February 28, 2009. Love Goes Down to Killybegs. In the foggy dew of morning I rise before the sun. And walk the time-worn path that generations have trod. Down to the sea. Down to Killybegs and the sea. Rustic hulls, aging nets lie sheltered in her arms,. While waters ripple softly. And seabirds soar silently in the awakening sky. The thatched roofs of Killybegs are strands of gold. In the Midas touch of the sun's first rays,. And I drink the. Morning cup of this mystical isle. And the cycle of...

Saturday, January 24, 2009. The Most Impressive Man in Nashville. The night air hung hot and humid, the thick darkness punctuated by the occasional soft flicker of a firefly. Hanging light bulbs glowed in the huge tent “green room,” where the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders laughed and talked, waiting their turn to perform. From an open doorway of the nearby auditorium came the booming bass lines of the Oakridge. The tight harmonies brough. 8220;Don’t know as I’ve s. 8221; And I told him the company I worked...

Friday, October 31, 2008. Frost crystals sparkle in the sun, decorating the autumn leaves with a festive texture. Time to stoke the wood stove and drop another marshmallow in the hot chocolate. But the timing I'm talking about is as likely to be serendipitous as it is planned, possibly more likely. The truth is, great photos are all around us, but often they are not waiting. Thursday, December 11, 2008. Thoughts on a Sunrise. Another sunrise. another opportunity to savor each fleeting moment as the heavenly kaleidoscope turns. Changing. changing. always changing. Some mornings I ponder that which is beyond my comprehension. Today I just sip from my steamy morning cup and scratch Ragz behind her silky ear. Yeh, girl. It's going to be a great day.". PhotoPoetica: Reflections on Reflections
http://thephotopoetslens.blogspot.com/2009/02/reflections-on-reflections.html
Wednesday, February 25, 2009. One of my most cherished childhood memories is riding in the family car at night. During the week Mom and Dad taught at a Bible college near our home in Minneapolis. But early Sunday morning we traveled to the small Minnesota town where Dad preached. Youngest and smallest, I would wedge myself into the spacious shelf beneath the Hudson’s rear window. I can still recall lying on my back, looking up at the starry sky until sleep would overtake me. Long before I could see the a...

Saturday, February 19, 2011. Thoughts upon a Stump. I know not when the seed did fall. Upon this soft and fertile earth,. When God sent rain and sun to bless. The one to whom He’d given birth. I wish I could have known you then,. When high above the earth’s soft crust. Your gentle arms reached to the sky. And earned through strength the eagles’ trust. And how I wish I could have seen. You stand up to the wind and rain;. You gathered strength from every test. And turned each loss instead to gain.
