Both the wheel configuration and the design of the bogie were shared with the Class 44, 45 and 46. The overall length was 69 foot 6 inches with an all up weight of 136 tonnes. The 5” model is fitted with 2 DC motors, one to each axle, with 12 or 24 volts battery power. Controls are a simple forward reverse switch and speed potentiometer. Powered by two Napier Deltic T18-25 engines producing 1650 hp at 1500 rpm, the electric transmission was delivered through six EE 538 axle-hung traction motors. The one piece fibre glass moulded body of this 5” Gauge model, can be mounted on either fabricated side frame bogies or cast type, depending on preference. Prices ( inc VAT).

There were driving postions at each end of the ‘blunt nosed’ body with the equipment installed in the centre section. This Class was first introduced in 1960 powered by a 2500 hp Sulzer engine with six Crompton-Parkinson 305 hp axle hung, nose suspended traction motors, giving a maximum speed of 90 mph. Designed at Derby, they were built there or at Crewe with the body design and layout following the general pattern of the old LMS Nos. 10000 and 10001 diesel-electrics.
