Learning to sew in your 40s. The Seamworks Astoria, Mark II. July 22, 2015. August 26, 2015. I LOVE this top, in fact I’d go as far as to say it’s possibly my favourite make to date! 🙂 While I didn’t get it right first time around, I knew Colette’s Astoria. Was worth a second attempt: this time in the right. Size and in a beautiful fabric I treated myself to with some of my marking pay. Online shop. It certainly wasn’t cheap, but so, so. I ordered in my Summer Holiday #Sundaysevens. Impression my previo...

Learning to sew in your 40s. Summer Holidays #sundaysevens, Week 2. July 26, 2015. July 26, 2015. Is hosted by Nat over at her site Threads and Bobbins. And is a round up of the week’s smaller events and achievements, that otherwise wouldn’t merit a post of their own. To join in, head over to Nat’s site to find out more. My children have still been at school this week, so I spent the majority of my week days on my exam marking, now finally finished, hurrah! I had a go at making Deliciously Ella’s. A year...

Learning to sew in your 40s. April 29, 2015. I love it when this happens! Originally 75, this was reduced to 50, and then 25. But seriously, that was a big hole, two of them in fact! The shop assistant was obviously amazed that I was prepared to buy it at all, asking me incredulously: ‘you have noticed the big hole in the front, haven’t you? 8217; Well, doh! 8216;I can sew…’ I replied, fairly. The sleeves made me do it! The peplum must be a bit of a scrapper. From a distance it looks just fine. I fig...

Learning to sew in your 40s. MeMadeMay, The Home Straight! May 31, 2015. May 31, 2015. Anyone else about to breathe a sigh of relief that it’s over? While I enjoyed the idea and the start of MMMay. This year, boy did the weather make it far more difficult than it should have been… So, the final straight? Here we go…. Was a bank holiday here in the UK. I dug out my original BHL Polly. And back to the marking piles. This Tilly and the Buttons Megan dress. Time for the knits to come out! I love it here🙂 Fo...

Learning to sew in your 40s. Another Astoria… #Coletteseamworks. July 29, 2015. August 26, 2015. Regular readers probably saw this one coming, but yes, I needed one of these in navy blue🙂. Again I cut a size medium. Adding an additional inch to the length of the bodice. What more can I say? I absolutely love this version too! Please be warned, this may not be the last Astoria you see around here…. Summer Holidays #sundaysevens, Week 2. July 26, 2015. July 26, 2015. Raw brownies. I still can’t ...I did s...

Learning to sew in your 40s. Why I love this little corner of the internet…. November 28, 2014. My husband often mocks my ‘imaginary friends’ I’ve made through blogging, but he’s really missing the point of why this little, tiny corner of the internet is so fab🙂 When I posted about a recent make that came out far too small, I was genuinely amazed at how many people offered their reassurance and advice. And what great advice too! My previously unwearable make, see here,. Incidentally, you may have notice...

Learning to sew in your 40s. December 31, 2014. December 31, 2014. Of all the presents under the tree this year, this one had to be the most exciting, and it didn’t disappoint. Thank you so much Vicki from Minerva Crafts. For this fantastic fabric…. I received a beautiful light, grey fabric (so perfect for Spring) with a very pretty net ‘ribbon’ zigzagging around it. You got my taste perfectly thank you Vicki! But maybe a little too unimaginative on my behalf…. I’m a little nervous of trying out so...

Advice please… | navybluethreads

Learning to sew in your 40s. August 7, 2015. I’m going to state from the outset: I did not make this jacket! Much though I’d love to give jacket-making a go (and I have not just one, but several suitable patterns lined up), time always seems to be against me…. It’s far too boxy on me, hence I’ve never worn it. What I want it to do is more like this…. Or should I attempt to construct an actual jacket from scratch for myself first? Would this make the process easier? Summer Holiday #sundaysevens, Week 3.

V8813 – old lady dress? | Curls n Skirls

Del's sewing stuff. Del’s other stuff. On a 30’s movie set. Setting a festive table for 1 or more. V8813 – old lady dress? Am faffing about this weekend, wishing the malodorous fumes from the outside painting would stop entering this tiny box as I don’t appreciate the corresponding headache. (Sorry for the whine.). Don’t let the new photo on the right confuse you! In my cyberspace sleuthing to see who’s done what with this pattern, saw some who wondered if it was an old lady dress. What do you think?

Learning to sew in your 40s. Shopping Revelations No 3. October 30, 2014. I forced myself to go jeans shopping the other day, ugh! It’s my least favourite kind of shopping. I’ve been really good of late and have avoided the shops, but I was fed up of only really owning ‘mum-jeans’ and not of any trendy variety either😉 Jeans are totally out of my skills range, sewing-wise, so to the shops it was. To celebrate I allowed myself a very quick perusal of the sale rail and came across this…. A Megan that fits.
