Tea towels and an old bag | Sewing at Damgate
https://sewingatdamgate.wordpress.com/2015/07/20/tea-towels-and-an-old-bag
1950’s Dirndl Skirt Remake. Linen sheet, camisole vest →. July 20, 2015 · 4:50 pm. Tea towels and an old bag. For the other cushion I used the two remaining tea towels for back and front. Rather than lose the wonderful blue stripes I put lots of pin tucks in the plainer tea towel to reduce its width. There was a bit of excess fabric trimmed from the other tea towel, enough to make some more ties. This one has a more generous amount of fabric at the opening which works better. I’m going to leave it ...
Summer knitting | Sewing at Damgate

Linen sheet, camisole vest. Saturday afternoon dilemma →. August 10, 2015 · 3:20 pm. Summer is not the best time for knitting. Autumn is my favourite, when darkness shrinks the days and the fire can be lit. This is the best time for embarking on a new project. For a long time I have been making do with the wool I have had in stock, which is mostly the 4 ply equivalent from the wonderful Jamieson and Smith. Also, by way of a confessional, I thought I would include the final pictures of the red 1940s cardi...
The Tyranny of Red Wool | Sewing at Damgate
https://sewingatdamgate.wordpress.com/2015/02/19/the-tyranny-of-red-wool
New Sewing Class beginning after Easter! February 19, 2015 · 11:47 am. The Tyranny of Red Wool. Red is not my colour and never has been. My clothing palette over the decades has been that of a ruined paint box, dirty greys, smudged greens, navy bleeding into black. Bottom of the pond colours, as my mother used to say. However, March 2014 a new mood descended – a red cardigan was the way forward, lifting the spirits and delivering confidence and style. How will red ever work? This is an interesting patter...

Newer posts →. August 2, 2015 · 4:28 pm. Linen sheet, camisole vest. In the more comfortable matron’s size and then did some changes. I want this garment to be a camisole top, to be worn under several other layers of clothing throughout the long harsh winters we get in Norfolk, rather like the goose fat bodice of yesteryear that children were reputedly sewn into. Or maybe it could just be a handy white vest. Between the folded edge and the main sheet. It felt like a big outlay at first, but now feels lik...
Factory Overall 1915 | Sewing at Damgate
https://sewingatdamgate.wordpress.com/2015/04/29/factory-overall-1915
Learn to Sew in Martham! Simplicity Sewing Project →. April 29, 2015 · 5:04 pm. I love this outfit – it is entirely functional with a certain apron mentality – and not a cinched waist in sight. See how the buttoned waist band just sits comfortably over a sack load of anything? To dress it up – just sling an old cardigan on top and you’re good to go. Footwear? Hefty walking shoes complete the look. I first made it in this soft stripy cotton – successful but rather reminiscent of the pyjama. June 10, 2016.

Ozzy Blackbeard: Pattern drafting class
http://ozzyblackbeard.blogspot.com/2015/07/pattern-drafting-class.html
Monday, 6 July 2015. I don't have any new makes to show today, so feel free to skip on if that's what you're here for - I won't be offended! Today I want to talk about my pattern drafting class that I mentioned in my last two posts, because this has been all-consuming for me for the last three weeks! First of all, I have to tell you how I came upon it. You may remember that I had been doing the on-line pattern drafting classes on Craftsy. The maximum number of people on the class would be four, but there...

At least I think that’s what it is, I don’t know for certain. Additional information welcome! I’ve always had a thing for little boxes, and when I came across this one I was delighted. I’m not sure why, because it’s not especially pretty now. It probably wasn’t a whole lot better in its own day! Notes and Queries, a Medium of Communication for Literary Men.

Monthly Archives: January 2015. X Marks the Spot. January 31, 2015. Pharaby’s shift is now marked. The art of marking was brought to perfection many years ago, and if our great grandmothers could but see the meagre attempts made by us now-a-days, I fancy they would have some contempt for the system by which our needlework abilities are tested. A K Smith, 1892. They would certainly have some contempt for how long it took me to mark Pharaby’s shift, regardless of the quality of my work! Making it to Pharab...

February 22, 2015. Pharaby’s pocket’s been picked! If you expected the. Quote on this one, maybe I succeeded in surprising you? There are so many images available online that it was hard to choose a model for her pocket. I finally settled on “the look” of a sweet little doll version in the online. The pattern: traced, pricked, and pounced. The fluff of canary-colored silk is the remains of my fight with the floss. The design I used was loosely based on an 1770s pattern from. It Seams French | Two Threads Back
https://twothreadsback.com/2015/03/28/it-seams-french
March 28, 2015. Once upon a time, I thought every seam that was sewn, by hand or machine, had to be finished. By that I mean it could have no raw edges. Raveling? Unthinkable. What would happen when the garment was worn? When it was washed? And so I zig-zagged, overcast, or French-seamed every seam so thoroughly that I might as well have used Super Glue. However, as I studied antique clothing I quickly learned that all seams weren’t. Used earlier in particular garments, by particular seamstresses, or in ...

June 26, 2015. Here is the sleeve slipped into the first shift. As a follow-up to the previous post – and a helpful comment, thank you! 8211; I’ve tried slipping the sleeve (cuff, undersleeve, engageante? Into the sleeve of a linen shift. Well, three different shifts. Above is the first. Very nice fit! The next one, below, is an even better fit. You’ll notice the sleeve length on this shift, unlike the first one above, extends past the gusset. This entry was posted in 18th Century. And tagged 18th century.

Sewing as Therapy
Sunday, 15 February 2015. It's been a while! I hadn't realised how long it had been since I last posted on my blog, I knew it had been a while but 2 years crikey! I lot has changed over those 2 years. We no longer have our beloved cat Arnold who's photo was on my last post. He was an elderly cat although we are not sure of his exact age as he adopted us as his family just before I become pregnant with Sam. The house felt very empty without him so we ended up adopting 2 kittens. That's all for now, I'm of...
