Sew OCD

Friday, May 1, 2015. The Shirt Dress Obsession! Once upon a time when I worked in an office, I almost exclusively wore dresses. This was for many reasons: they're much more comfortable to sit in all day, it's one piece easy dressing, and I always felt cute and feminine in a male dominated field during a time when I was young and flirtatious! Haha, well since joining a medical profession where I sit on the floor, work in a lab, and am on my feet all day, dresses have become a professional mirage. After ob...

Sew OCD: September 2013

http://sewingocd.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 13, 2013. When I discovered OOP McCall's 5818 (through reviews on sewing.patternreview.com of course), I wanted it! The simple dress is exactly the type of garment I like to sew and wear. I like the other pieces (except for the crazy large lapels on the jacket), but honestly, I doubt I'll ever sew them. I bought this one for the dress. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, even though I used crazy fabric (see more below).

Sew OCD: March 2013

http://sewingocd.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 14, 2013. For those of you who follow me on sewing.patternreview.com, I've posted the following information within various reviews. I thought it would be nice to include it in a blog entry though, so that it would be easier to find for those seeking the information. A sari is the garment worn by Indian women that is wrapped and draped. Most are 42-45" wide and they vary in length so check item descriptions. Common fabrics are silk, "art" (artificial) silk, or cotton. Saris vary in quality...

Sew OCD: Dress for a wedding... the saga continues

http://sewingocd.blogspot.com/2013/08/dress-for-wedding-saga-continues.html

Monday, August 5, 2013. Dress for a wedding. the saga continues. When I planned this project, I had no idea how big of a PITA it would be! I was very confident that Vogue 9668 view C would be flattering to my figure type (inverted triangle). It seemed simple enough to showcase my fabric, complex enough to not be boring, and classic enough for a family wedding. I've never had so much trouble with a pattern! Be fixable, but I don't have that kind of time for this project. So on to plan B. I've always l...

Sew OCD: About Me

http://sewingocd.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html

I work in the medical field and enjoy sewing as a creative outlet. I've sewn since I was quite young and made many of my clothes as a teenager (they were quite odd). My life was quite hectic for a few years as I balanced a full time career and grad school. During that time, I rarely sewed but am happy to be making the return. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Shirt Dress Obsession! Hoping this blog will help document my projects and serve as a learning tool for others. View my complete profile.

This is my creative outlet for some stitchin and some bitchin! Happy Halloween 2014 and some BIG news! February 18, 2015. Hello all, yes I have been MIA as usual but to be honest I really haven’t been doing much sewing lately. I refuse to sew any garments until after the baby is born (gotta get this big belly under control first! There were a lot of pieces to cut out for this gal (I made a lady crocodile) but I found that it all pieced together nicely with no major issues. The only trouble I ran into...

Polly Esther - A Sewing Obsession

Polly Esther - A Sewing Obsession. View my complete profile. Monday, November 28, 2011. The Blonde Phantom always carried a .45 caliber pistol and being the nerd that I am, I of course had to get hold of something that was not only a .45 caliber pistol, but also appropriate for the time period. I quickly decided on getting a softgun version of a Colt M1911. And a mail order pattern from Midvale Cottage on Etsy. From an unknown company, but numbered 2167:. Please do excuse the puckering around the armscye!
