Sewin' Like the Wind

Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Happy Halloween: 1881 Bonnie. Bonnie got a lot of mileage out of her Halloween costume this year. Her 4th grade class got to visit a one room schoolhouse in Waterford, VA this month. I made her costume because of course I am obsessed that way. She was able to wear the costume to several Halloween parties and will wear it tonight. The lace from the cuffs was from the stash. I actually have lots of white lace in my stash, unfortunately I either didn't have enough or it didn...

Sewin' Like the Wind: May 2011

http://sewinlikethewind.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 8, 2011. The long sewing drought is over, and I finished Bonnie's 1st Communion dress. I have been thinking about it for months and have not been able to sew anything for myself in the meantime. Of course I was sewing up until the last minute (I finished it at 9:00 and we left for the church at 10:00). I made the pattern from a store bought Easter dress that Bonnie wore 2 years ago. I think their prices are reasonable, but the shipping costs will wipe out any savings you may get. My Self-Draf...

Sewin' Like the Wind: Circus McGurkus

http://sewinlikethewind.blogspot.com/2012/03/circus-mcgurkus.html

Friday, March 2, 2012. Bonnie came home from school and said "Mrs. K asked me to ask you if you would make a tent for Dr. Seuss Day. Apparently Mrs. K is using 3rd graders to do her dirty work. The 3rd grade theme is Dr. Seuss' book. If I Ran the Circus. So here is what Mrs. K got. I got the cotton quilting fabric and tension rods at JoAnns. 65279;I used a saucer (as in cup and saucer) to trace the scallops for the valance and tie backs. I serged the ruffles of the tie-backs with red thread. My name is L...

Sewin' Like the Wind: Cowl #2

http://sewinlikethewind.blogspot.com/2009/10/cowl-2.html

Saturday, October 3, 2009. My sewing productivity has taken a dive. For the month of September I only finished 2 of the Burda cowls. The pattern is extremely simple. The black version shown here. And a new and exciting maroon version. Burda Plus Autumn/Winter 2009/10 - 403. In this version, I took in the sides about 2 inches and tapered the sleeves at the wrist. I also cut off about 2 inches from the front hem. I think it fits better now. The fabric is a rayon knit from JoAnns. October 5, 2009 at 12:15 PM.

Sewin' Like the Wind: December 2010

Friday, December 31, 2010. Review of 2010 Sewing Resolutions. UPDATED: I removed the oft-repeated word "fail" from my original posting following a very good comment received from KC. A review of my 2010 sewing resolutions has yielded the following:. Same resolution as last year: sew at least 2 garments a month for a total of 24 garments. Result: I only completed 16 garments, falling short by 8. 2 Make at least 2 projects using embroidery machine. It's fixed and ready to go. 6 Make a coat. I still nee...

b4 the door: Look Ma, No Pattern!

http://b4thedoor.blogspot.com/2010/08/look-ma-no-pattern.html

B4 the Door Closet. Look Ma, No Pattern! I've made some head way with the black and cream print! Surprisingly,I'm draping and it's going pretty well, considering I have absolutely no training in doing so! The shape is quite straight forward with a hint of detail, nothing to complicated. So at some point tomorrow I'll show you my progress, finished or not. Thanks for stopping by! Posted using BlogPress from my iPad. August 16, 2010 at 6:09 PM. Ohhh, draping, thats so advanced (girlishly giggling)! No text...

B4 the Door Closet. Sunset seagulls tank.and a skirt. I kept passing over this fabric at Joann's, picking it up, putting it back, each visit. Loving the color of this knit but feeling unsure about those birds. Readers, I don't ever wear animal portraits or shadow portraits, that stuff is for kids right? Oh, and this is M5853.again. I didn't want to wait on this fabric sitting around waiting to get sewed, it was now or way too late! Inspiration: PAPER BAG WAIST DRESS, MINK PINK, PINK SALOON. Finding fabri...

B4 the Door Closet. Beads, crystals and belts, oh my! I've been posting about preparing for alumni weekend. I worked out the fabric issue and picked a pattern. Traipsing to my loca. L Micheal's, I looked for the necessary materials: felt, beads, little flowers, etc. Still needing some extra items, I went to The Bead Room in Durham, NC. It is a wonderful store with an interesting history to it. There I got a few different kinds of beads to at to my belt. Links to this post. Zebra pencil skirt, B5466.

B4 the Door Closet. This might entice you, McCalls pattern sale! Readers, I received this email very early today! If you're a BMV member this is the Vogue sale for you! Especially if you shop before noon. But that's not all, it's probably a good time for me come a member, that's on sale too! I'm very tempted to bite on this low risk deal. B4 the Door Closet. Black and White on the Red Carpet. What a week it's been! I'm halfway thru a dress that I won't be able to finish until next week, unfortunately! But I'm putting the finishing touches on my early fall wardrobe plans. A nice mix of new pieces and older pieces! Anyway, I'm looking forward to more dinners, birthday parties and family gatherings this weekend. I'll be lucky to finish anything new, but I'll show you what I'm wearing! B4 the Door Closet. Minnie Penny Pant, Vogue 1039, #3. Well that was easy. This time I did the 1 inch front thigh alteration. This shall be my standard. And a full seat alteration. I followed the instructions from the threads DVD. It's about 1/3 inch, should have done 1/2 inch. This prevents that horrible peek-a-boo from the back view! Same pocket construction with the zig-zagstitch. I used polka dot cotton for the pockets and finished them the French way! So I cut mine to 6 inches. Just right! I used mo...
