Sew Much Art: November 2011

http://sewmuchart.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Thoughts on Textile Art, Nature, and Life by Susan Nash. Saturday, November 19, 2011. I was thinking about birthdays while I was in spinning class this morning. As children, we can hardly wait for each birthday to arrive. Early on, we are never old enough.not old enough to ride that amusementt park ride, not old enough to get into that exciting looking bar, or not old enough to vote. Then comes the day that we turn 21, and are finally old enough! We are. Remember."you're as young as you feel"? I recently...

Sew Much Art: January 2011

http://sewmuchart.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Thoughts on Textile Art, Nature, and Life by Susan Nash. Sunday, January 30, 2011. While my first artistic love is stitching and embellishing art quilts, I am trying to stretch and grow in other creative endeavors. An online class I signed up for this January is Jane Lafazio's. Sketchbook Watercolor on Location" class. Our first assignment was to just stay at home and find some objects to paint. She suggested keys. As I have a collection of old keys, that was exactly what I painted. Links to this post.

Sunday, March 25, 2012. Autumn Etude • 21" x 14" • cloth, dye • ©2012 Jennifer Libby Fay. If it weren’t for my friends and fellow textile artists, Dotti Day. And Joanne Salz (who is, sadly websiteless), I would not be the artist (or person) I am today. Our friendship is supported by our desire to make art, our love of textiles and our passion (some would say obsession) for learning and inspiration. Dotti and I attended Marie-Therese Wisniowski’s workshop on Disperse Dyes. Is a fantastic resource. PRISCIL...

Wednesday, May 23, 2012. RUBICON: point of no return. Overture for Today • 22" x 22" • cloth, dye • ©2012 Jennifer Libby Fay. I have tried, a few times, to describe the process I usually go through when I choose a theme for a body of work—I don’t really know where the seed thought for a concept comes from. It feels like a nudge, from the universe, from God, from my unconscious, or even the collective unconscious? Bohemian Grove • 21" x 13" • cloth, dye • ©2012 Jennifer Libby Fay. May 2 - June 1. We were on our way to the Fed Ex substation to pick up the case of wine I'd ordered from Hafner Vineyard. One of our favorite California wineries. Do you want to stop for coffee? What I WANT, I replied, is a REAL bagel, with REAL cream cheese, and LOX with a slice of tomato and some capers. THAT'S what I WANT.". No, that can't possibly be. Dee Mallon...

Thursday, December 20, 2012. Feeling disconnected and out of sorts, I decided to make this a “windfall walk”. Wednesday, August 22, 2012. Peters Valley • Day One. I should be concentrating on what workshop instructor, Lisa Grey. Is saying about mixing dye, but all I can think about are the ticks. Yes, ticks, as in Deer Ticks, the kind that carry Lyme’s disease. I am in New Jersey at Peters Valley Craft Center. Attending a workshop called, Disperse Dyes: Reinventing the Wheel. I’m here at Lisa’s invitation as her guest and also because this is what I do. Making Art Makes a Difference. Our first day Lisa covered e...

The adventures and creations of an Art Quilter. February 12, 2010. Snow Dyeing and The Blizzard of 2010. After pouring the dye over the fabrics. As you know, we got blasted with the Blizzard of 2010 as they are calling it here in the DC area. I spent a lot of time just watching it snow, watching movies and snow dyeing (not to mention shoveling). I have posted some pictures of some of my fabrics. It was so much fun! Vern shoveling snow below and a view of our street during the blizzard.

The adventures and creations of an Art Quilter. April 8, 2010. New Work, New Direction. Autumn Woods I (Work-In-Progress). I just got home after three weeks in Ohio. I was babysitting our son's dog and house sitting while he was on military duty. I am still unpacking and doing laundry. I had to do yard work right away, it's like Summer here in Virginia and the grass was out of control. I hope to post more soon. My quilt guild is doing a dyeing class in my barn later this month, but no snow in Florida.

The adventures and creations of an Art Quilter. October 13, 2010. Sometimes you have to look at old work with a new eye. Today, I painted lots of fabric and used Dynaflo to paint cotton pads and pull them apart. There is a new series in the works. I really like the new light on the water. Sew Much And More

Sew Much And More. Sunday, July 26, 2015. Have you made a Wonky Cross quilt? Have you made anything wonky? Another name for it is 'liberated'. I think of it as being improv as well, because you're making random/improv slashes through your fabric, instead following a pattern or instruction for cutting a specific measured shape. I've seen wonky stars, houses, log cabin, 4-patch, etc. they look fun and whimsical to me! I used a layer cake, and made a random slash through the 10 square. Easy right? The next ...

Sunday, March 16, 2014. What about these arrows? The grain goes which way? Wait What's the "grain" again? She was SO patient with me and very sweetly answered every single one of my questions, no matter how annoying I must have been or how busy she was with whatever project she was working on. When I got married and had babies, I made curtains and pillows, clothes.I was never much into the "quilting" thing. Not just because it looked hard (it did), but well, you know.
