sewn threads: Wardrobe Challenge 2014...
http://sewnthreads.blogspot.com/2014/01/wardrobe-challenge-2014.html
A visual diary of wardrobe creations. Wednesday, January 15, 2014. I have decided to join Angela Wolf's Wardrobe Challenge 2014. The goal of the challenge is to fill my closet with my own home-sewn or re-styled garments. This may be just the motivation I need to re-style some of the pieces I have picked up at thrift stores. Just like my closet! Progress will be posted here as well as on a Flickr album. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Watermark theme. Powered by Blogger.

A visual diary of wardrobe creations. Saturday, January 21, 2012. Sew 1912.an adventure in vintage sewing. It is hard not to get a bit excited about tackling this project after doing a little research into the fashions of the era and seeing the first of the patterns that have been prepared for us. I look forward to the challenge, not only of recreating these fashions, but also to incorporating vintage details into my current garments. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.
sewn threads: September 2013
http://sewnthreads.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
A visual diary of wardrobe creations. Sunday, September 22, 2013. The birth of a wedding gown. Once the silk under dress was constructed and lined, I began the process of hand tacking the Alencon lace. First the overlay for the flounce was sewn. At the seam where the skirt attached to the bottom of the dress, I used a bias strip to cover the raw edges of the lace. To cover this strip, I trimmed the scalloped edge from the Alencon fabric and used this as edging. Once the basic overdress was finished, I ad...

Rayon, polyester, spandex ponte from my stash (Fabric Mart), polyester lining also from stash. McCalls 5523 for the back, Butterick 5566, modified, for the front.

The 1912 project – testing sewing to the limits. Archive for the month “March, 2012”. The scallop ski…. The scallop skirt is now complete. The cutting out went a little awry as the lines on the pattern didn’t seem to match up the further down the rows you went so a little re drawing was called for. I am struggling to get word press to upload some photos but you can see them at my other blog and on the flikr display. Http:/ briggsy-throughthelookingglass.blogspot.com/. The scallop ski…. The 1912 project – testing sewing to the limits. Ive cut it out in a cream linen fabric and am going to face the scallops in a brown silk lining instead I think rather than applying a bias finish to them. however busy work schedule ahs set me back a bit so hope to resume at the weekend. The 1912 project – testing sewing to the limits. I made a mistake on the top layer of lace access the bodice by applying it to each piece individually- DON’T ist really hard to match up the seams do it after construction. The second strip I did after construction and it worked really well. I sewed all the other seams together as normal. The insertion lace and the edging lace went together really well and I used large bobbin needle to thread the ribbon through. The while thing took about 6 hours from star...

Sewn the World Over
Wednesday, 4 March 2015. As well as learning how to sew, I am also learning where to find fabrics in Toronto. Over the past few months I have been checking out fabric shops all over the city as well as a few online sellers and will be writing about some of my favourites in this blog. Fabric selection at King Textiles. Note: do not go with small children, your buggy won't fit down the aisles and your little people will have a field day pulling haberdashery from the shelves! Sewn the World Over. My sewing ...

1 Identify a Project. We work with schools, nonprofits and NGOs around the world to identify projects that could benefit from a sewing program. These photos show 3 such projects: an impoverished village in Honduras, a vocational school in Tanzania, and an orphanage in Moldova. The goal is always the same - to empower people to support themselves through sewing. Why Give to Us? Why Give to Us? We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit program, so your donation will be eligible for tax deduction. Every project supports...
