Damn You, Skirt! Damn you! | Sewing Japanese

Exploring the Japanese Hippie Doomsday Cult look with Japanese sewing books. Damn You, Skirt! August 15, 2015. August 16, 2015. I’m beginning to think the Straight-cut Tiered Skirt. Is cursed. Actually, I know it is. I am just trying at this point to ward off superstition. Can’t belong to. Cults at the same time. I spent an eternity picking out all the gathering threads. Then I cut down the big bottom tier to the size of the underskirt and stated to sew. I felt so happy, finally moving forward! You are c...

Exploring the Japanese Hippie Doomsday Cult look with Japanese sewing books. I Could Use a Serger Right Now. August 10, 2015. August 10, 2015. The Japanese Hippie Doomsday Cult doesn’t own a serger, sad to say. We get by just fine with a Sears brand sewing machine from a garage sale. Yep. Sigh Still, here are the tiers, all assembled and ready for the next step:. At the top is the over skirt, made of cotton lawn, and then baby tier, mama tier and daddy tier at the bottom. Happy Homemade Sew Chic. Create ...

May 26, 2015. August 8, 2015. I finished this project a few months ago either at the end of February or the beginning of March but it’s clearly taken me a long time to actually get pictures of it. I think part of the reason it took me so long to take photos was because I wasn’t sure how I felt about the style. Honestly, I’m still not completely convinced that this is a style I like on me. The pattern is Jalie 2921. When I first finished it, I thought:. Okay, maybe this will grow on me. But then I tried i...

Sewing my way to a handmade home. Tulip Quilt pattern (free! Rainbow raspberry kiss quilt top. August 17, 2016. After much indecision, here’s what I came up with! Still a rainbow, but not as linear as my initial arrangement. I added more warm blocks to better balance out the cools, and I mixed the blocks up a bit so the color transitions wouldn’t be too harsh. If I’m honest, I’m not 100% happy with it, but I am NOT ripping out any seams at this point! I may have to use the huge table at Gather Here.

Learning to sew in your 40s. August 7, 2015. I’m going to state from the outset: I did not make this jacket! Much though I’d love to give jacket-making a go (and I have not just one, but several suitable patterns lined up), time always seems to be against me…. It’s far too boxy on me, hence I’ve never worn it. What I want it to do is more like this…. Or should I attempt to construct an actual jacket from scratch for myself first? Would this make the process easier? Summer Holiday #sundaysevens, Week 3.

Sewing my way to a handmade home. Tulip Quilt pattern (free! On my bookshelf: The Art of Manipulating Fabric by Colette Wolff. May 2, 2015. Today I’d like to share one of my absolute favorite sewing books:. The Art of Manipulating Fabric. Colette begins the preface of the book with this simple introduction:. 8220;This is a book of ideas about sewing cloth.”. I began to drag other people into the meetings, merely for the pleasure of watching their faces as she pulled out some samples. At one point som...

Sewing my way to a handmade home. Tulip Quilt pattern (free! Pattern drafting: first attempt at skirt sloper. March 23, 2014. My adventures in pattern drafting are in full swing over here! This weekend I drafted an initial skirt sloper using the same book I used for my bodice sloper. Like last time, I’ve included two side views below: one in my normal standing posture, and one with my arms out of the way so you can see the side seams. Aren’t these muslin shots so glamorous? So much to learn! 2 – I ...

A sewing blog without the sewing. Announcement: Anyone interested in drinking with me? Per usual, I’m answering old comments late, but you should find responses (t)here shortly. End of announcements. I’m trying out a new sewing philosophy—you may have heard of it. Giving no fucks? Just slipstitch it down. Topstitching uneven? You’re the only one who cares about that. Collar stand a little lumpy? I’m going to wear the shit out of it this summer, I just know it. It all used to line up, I promise! It actual...
