Seymour Birdies Diary

A tale of birding and photography. Thursday, 13 August 2015. My Annual Green Sandpiper Fix. Another Lemsford speciality is the Stock Dove which can often be seen sitting up in the trees at the back of the reserve. However, due to the amount of dry seed they eat, they will often come down on to the cress beds for a drink. Unfortunately this particular individual was keen to keep his back to me. Needless to say I went home very satisfied and look forward to my annual pilgrimage next year. Further round the...

Seymour Birdies Diary: August 2014

http://seymourbirdies.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

A tale of birding and photography. Friday, 29 August 2014. Some Superb Birding at Abberton and Fingringhoe Wick. The plan today was to call in to Abberton Reservoir to see what was on the causeways, go to Fingringhoe Wick to look for warblers in the bushes, and end up in Robbies Hide by 2.00pm, an hour before high tide to hopefully get some waders being pushed up on the tide. Well, some of it worked. However below them, still on the water was a flock of Spotted Redshank which were not quite as flighty.

Seymour Birdies Diary: December 2014

http://seymourbirdies.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

A tale of birding and photography. Tuesday, 30 December 2014. A Review of 2014. As we all say, where did that year go? I certainly spent much of it trudging round various sites with my camera and took thousands of photos, but it is always difficult to remember in which year certain photos were taken. So just for the record here are some of the more memorable shots from 2014 in chronological order. Purple Sandpiper Lowestoft 20th January 2014. Crossbill Lynford Arboretum 19th March. I think we are all gui...

Seymour Birdies Diary: October 2014

http://seymourbirdies.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

A tale of birding and photography. Thursday, 30 October 2014. And now on to Titchwell. After such a fantastic morning at Burnham Norton with the Steppe Grey Shrike I was wondering what Titchwell would hold. My last visit here was on the 7th September 2014 and what a day that was with Little Stint, Ruff and Curlew Sandpipers just yards away. Well time marches on and as expected the birds were thinning out and more distant. Sunday, 26 October 2014. Steppe Grey Shrike at Burnham Norton. I set off on a grey ...

Seymour Birdies Diary: A Rather Hopeful Visit to Rainham Marshes in Early August

http://seymourbirdies.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-rather-hopeful-visit-to-rainham.html

A tale of birding and photography. Sunday, 9 August 2015. A Rather Hopeful Visit to Rainham Marshes in Early August. Further round the trail the brambles were attracting a number of birds including some young Linnets and Starlings. The Linnets were clearly not interested in the blackberries but had probably been born and bred in the bramble patch. The young Starlings were however gorging themselves on the berries and showing off their smart transitional plumage. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Seymour Birdies Diary: Rainham Marshes in May

http://seymourbirdies.blogspot.com/2015/05/rainham-marshes-in-may.html

A tale of birding and photography. Sunday, 17 May 2015. Rainham Marshes in May. As we are now into May probably a good time to visit Rainham Marshes in the hope of photographing some warblers. Although the Purfleet Hide continues to be quiet, the path that runs along the southern perimeter of the reserve was fairly active with Reed and Sedge Warblers and Whitethroats all in full song. Unfortunately, the Sedge Warblers were keeping well-hidden, unlike this Reed Warbler and Whitethroat. Lakenheath Fen in S...

Tuesday, 30 December 2014. A Cold, Crisp Day at Fishers Green! Fishers Green, Cheshunt - 10th December, 14. Bright, sunny, clear skies. Cold wind. Fox; Grey Squirrel; Muntjac. It was a lovely, sunny day. Clear skies with a cold, biting wind. But I had my secret weapon on today, a lovely warm scarf. There was nothing much to be seen until I arrived at Friday Lake. Looking out I could see about 4 or 5 Great Crested Grebes. Swimming around; a lone female Pochard. And the usual Gulls. View from the Teal Hide.

The Badger's Eye: Clifftop dawn

http://www.thebadgerseye.com/2015/05/clifftop-dawn.html

The Kitchen Window List. Monday, 18 May 2015. I pulled open the bivy bag cover. And light flooded my consciousness. Sunlight, sound and birds battered the senses. No more the gentle calls of midnight,. That crept through the dark to whisper in straining ears. This was full on, in your face, high volume cacophony. Gulls, gannets, puffins, and guillemots filled the sky,. Swirling out from the ledges and down to the sea below,. Calling out into the spring morning that they were alive. The Kitchen Window List.
