Gavin's Ball Blog: A quick note on the NBA
http://gavinsballblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/a-quick-note-on-nba.html
Monday, February 11, 2013. A quick note on the NBA. Be on the lookout for my MLB preview, coming soon. But first, some NBA notes. 1 LeBron James is not human. His latest thing is to see how many points he can score while shooting over 60%. For five straight games, he has scored 30 on 18 or less shots. Just when you thought he couldn't get any better. 2 Kevin Durant is just as good. While LeBron, Kobe and Carmelo Anthony get more press, Durant leads the league in Points and Win Shares. The Boys on the Bench.

Gavin's Ball Blog: Starter Struggles and Walk-off Wins
http://gavinsballblog.blogspot.com/2013/05/starter-struggles-and-walk-off-wins.html
Saturday, May 25, 2013. Starter Struggles and Walk-off Wins. The Giants staff has placed in the top five in the National League in ERA for four straight seasons. This year, the team is tenth in the NL with an ERA of 4.03. The beauty of roller coasters is that they go go up and down, but ultimately end up in the same place. In two of the past three years, that place has been a World Series Championship. Let's hope this roller coaster is on the tracks to another championship. The Boys on the Bench. Looks D...

Gavin's Ball Blog: April 2013
http://gavinsballblog.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 20, 2013. Now it Gets Real". As the NBA season wound down to a close, few fans cared. After all, the whole point of the regular season is to make sure you aren't an exceptionally bad team. In what other league could the 38-44 Milwaukee Bucks make the playoffs? An immature Demarcus Cousins? An incapable Jimmer Fredette? What even happened to Thomas Robinson? Spencer Hawes and Jason Thompson have developed into fine players, but Hawes is elsewhere and Thompson isn't a game changer. The fran...

Gavin's Ball Blog: Looks Don't Matter, Right?
http://gavinsballblog.blogspot.com/2013/05/looks-dont-matter-right.html
Sunday, May 5, 2013. Looks Don't Matter, Right? Sports are about talent, we all know that. But in today's age, playing well often isn't enough to get noticed. Pads and jerseys have been complemented by arm bands, socks, shoes, sunglasses, hats, arm sleeves, compression gear, bats, gloves, headbands, bracelets, necklaces, helmets, etc. Every sport has it's cool gear; every sport has it's shoes. Gavin's Ball Blog: The Mastery of Miguel Cabrera
http://gavinsballblog.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-mastery-of-miguel-cabrera.html
Monday, May 13, 2013. The Mastery of Miguel Cabrera. It usually takes a few months for the early season luck to even out. The Tigers have Cabrera signed through 2015 (with a 8-year, $15 million deal that looks like a huge bargain now). Prince Fielder and Justin Verlander are both signed for another 7 years. With these studs locked up, the Tigers are in serious position to win a World Series. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). SF Giants Series Recap With Mets Video. The Boys on the Bench. Gavin's Ball Blog: On Champion Diversity
http://gavinsballblog.blogspot.com/2013/06/on-champion-diversity.html
Friday, June 7, 2013. Basketball is different. From 2000-2010, nine different teams won the World Series. Eight different teams won the Super Bowl. Nine different teams won Stanley Cup. But, in that time, only five teams have won the NBA Finals. Basketball success is more predictable than in other sports. Why? The answer lies in the intricacy of the game. Basketball games have over ten times as many scores as the other major sports. Examine this chart. In the NBA finals this year, there is no doubt that ...

Gavin's Ball Blog: World Baseball Classic: are you paying attention?
http://gavinsballblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-world-baseball-classic.html
Monday, March 11, 2013. World Baseball Classic: are you paying attention? The World Baseball Classic. What a warm, fuzzy name. MLBcom is ripe with the WBC headlines, but the sad reality is that no one really cares. Quick: who won last year? Just kidding, this is the first one since 2009 (Japan won). Glad you noticed.
