Ok, perhaps not a lifelong dream, but I have wanted to ride one since I got to Iraq. Today was the day, because this donkey didn't have bugs and fleas all over it. Events, Thoughts and Pictures from A Soldier in Iraq. Friday, December 10, 2004. There's a New Sheriff In Town! 3rd Platoon, my platoon, on their first patrol in Iraq. Oil Pipeline fires such as the ones in the background are quite common around here. In an attempt to upset Iraq's infrastructure insurgents regularly attack and blow up the pipelines. Sometimes these fires burn for months wasting thousands of barrels of oil a day until they can be put out by specialized fire fighting teams. I Hate That Guy!
