The Late Shift at the SageMart: November 2013
http://thesagemart.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
The Late Shift at the SageMart. Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Last night at the Moth Story Hour I learned that next month's theme is 'Home' which is appropriate as we are temporarily (and by choice) without one. But my story about home would not be about this temporary dislocation because although it is a small irritating burden- there really is no story there. This is the story I'd tell about home:. And I think, Yeah! What kind of tourist gets off the cruise in a purple and yellow full on uniform? And o...

The Late Shift at the SageMart: March 2014
http://thesagemart.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
The Late Shift at the SageMart. Monday, March 17, 2014. History Day Take Two. Eli is the defending Minnesota champ in the junior group documentary division for History Day. Went on to National's last year and placed 8th in the nation. So what does his younger brother do when assigned to take on a history day project? Can't get enough of winter. One grammatical correction this English teacher mom will not make:. Theo's 2013 Christmas List. History Day Levels of Stress. One day this winter, President Obama...

The Late Shift at the SageMart: January 2014
http://thesagemart.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
The Late Shift at the SageMart. Monday, January 13, 2014. Warming my heart with a touchy toaster-oven. The deep freeze is finally over- for now. If my math is correct, yesterday when Theo and I were out playing in the snow it was a full 65 degrees warmer than one week earlier. 65 degrees! Thursday, January 2, 2014. More episodes for one. So there I was, laying on the table while she inserted the needles in my arms, legs (my ear? Walking on the sunny side of the street. Slow it down already.

The Late Shift at the SageMart: December 2014
http://thesagemart.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
The Late Shift at the SageMart. Wednesday, December 3, 2014. The Power of Butterflies. Too much of a good thing. You might not realize that it's a competitive sport. And we all have our methods, our secrets. So quit your googling, Mr. Man in the white minivan. Driving by so slowly, like you've never seen a middle aged woman take a flying leap on to a bag of leaves before. Sheesh. Best way to achieve maximum leaf bag de-volumination. I can assure you. Hiking with some of my favorite teens.

The Late Shift at the SageMart: December 2013
http://thesagemart.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
The Late Shift at the SageMart. Monday, December 16, 2013. 2013 was one of lots of changes. Eli grew at least half a foot, his voice deepened dramatically and he has even taken a razor to his upper lip. Once. Whenever we notice these things he makes loud noises to block out our voices and says "Don't talk about it! Write it down if you have to. Keep a journal. Then give it to me. And I will burn it." Too bad that my journal is electronic. Home again home again, jiggety jig? Luckily I just finished readin...

The Late Shift at the SageMart: November 2014
http://thesagemart.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
The Late Shift at the SageMart. Saturday, November 29, 2014. The other day Theo mentioned that he had a paper to write for school. I asked if he needed me to look it over. And then added, "because you know, there is nothing I like more than working on writing with my boys." Theo didn't seem to hear, but then I heard him mutter under his breath, after a moment of contemplation:"That's sad.". Check Theo's radiator. Looking for a spatula or pliers? How about his desk? Avalon on the March. It was fun to see ...

The Late Shift at the SageMart: June 2013
http://thesagemart.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
The Late Shift at the SageMart. Thursday, June 27, 2013. Tooth Fairy does damage. Mom You have just so damaged me.". The other day Theo hit his hunger wall about 45 minutes before dinner, as usual. He made his way into the kitchen, fished around, and came out with a banana, sighing, "Really, can you think of a more perfect snack than a banana? For the record, I can. In Even Plastic Cup. Can I use it now? No Not now. In Even Plastic Cup. Quit asking. Just where does that leave us? Blogs by the boys.

The Late Shift at the SageMart: May 2013
http://thesagemart.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
The Late Shift at the SageMart. Friday, May 24, 2013. Cliff Diving Gorillas and Substitute Pirates. As we rolled (slowly) into Denver I used my phone to find a cheap hotel for the night. Jean piped up from the back about a restaurant we had stopped at back in the 80s. She remembered mexican food and cliff divers. In a restaurant. So I googled 'cliff diving restaurant' and sure enough it was still around, and just down the road! There were substitute pirates? That so beats being a substitute teacher.
