The one thing that is consistent between my academic and home writing is my grammar. However, I never use improper grammar. That is one of my biggest pet peeves when people use the wrong form of your, there, or leave out a comma. I honestly think less of that person after I see such silly grammar errors. I think this quote describes a lot about how Amy Tan felt with her speech in “Mother Tongue.” In this piece she talks about her many different voices and the things in her life that have attributed to her various voices. How do you understand the term literacy? What is the focus of literacy in your professional area: either particular grade level range or workplace environment? I used to think that literacy was just anything that has to do with writing or reading. Through this class, I am beginning to discover that literacy is much more than that.
