http://www.poweredbyplantz.com/p/thoughts-on-protein.html
The goal of this page is not. Necessarily) to persuade,. But to answer a question. Where do I get my protein? Plants. Where don't I get it? The protein question is the go to question for anyone unfamiliar with the vegetarian/vegan diet. Let me start by recreating a chart from "The China Study," by T. Colin Campbell, PhD and Thomas M. Campbell II, MD. This chart compares the nutrient composition of 500 calories of plant and animal based foods. Vitamin E (mg ATE). Striking, isn't it? Examples of these dise...

Wednesday, March 6, 2013. I'm not normally a huge lover of cauliflower. As a kid, I only saw cauliflower at Christmas and Thanksgiving, served alongside carrot sticks and celery with cold white dips. Who would go for that when you could suck black olives off your fingertips? As an adult, I usually pass on it at the market, associating it with gas (that's right, I'm talking about farts again), and assuming that it must be low in nutritional value. How nutritious can a white vegetable be? 2 T olive oil.

Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Blackstrap Almond Fig Balls. Be sure to use unsulphured molasses for maximum nutrient density. It's also very sticky - lightly oiling your measuring spoon will help it to slip right out. 15 cups raw almonds - divided. 1 cup dried, turkish figs - stems removed. 15 cup large flake, unsweetened coconut - divided. 2 T unsulphured blackstrap molasses. 1 T powdered ginger. In the bowl of a food processor, process one cup of the almonds to a fine meal. Posted by Lacey Dumler.

Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Bierock - sans animal. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to be posting this recipe - this is something I've been wanting to do for YEARS. I grew up in a small town in western Kansas, with a strong Volga German. Heritage. We ate lots of meat and potatoes, lots of things with heavy cream, and lots of things that most people have never heard of. Dad and Connie, looking good in denim. Dad and Connie cuttin' a rug. A rare and priceless picture of my Dad at the ocean.

http://www.poweredbyplantz.com/2013/05/chick-pea-salad-sandwiches-and-big-fat.html
Tuesday, May 14, 2013. Chick Pea Salad Sandwiches (and a big fat rant). For all you lovers of all things "salad sandwiches" out there, this one's for you! Ham salad, egg salad, tuna salad, phooey! Who needs all that crap when you can make a tasty, filling, nutrient packed, suffering-free, fast, cheap, bomber sandwich using chick peas instead of corpses? Did she seriously just say corpses? Do go on.) I'm usually happy to play that card, but today I'm feeling surly. Look, a cute sleepy kitty! Don't you dar...

Monday, November 21, 2011. Rustic Roasted Potato Salad. This potato salad kicks arse. Roasted garlic, green olives, sun dried tomatoes, whole grain mustard, loads of parsley, and absolutely no mayonnaise. Measurements really aren't necessary; just throw in as much of each ingredient as you like to make a salad that knocks your knickers off. 1-2 Whole heads of garlic. A pound or two of potatoes - I used a mix of red and yukon gold. 2-4 hard boiled eggs. 1/2 - 1 cup pitted green olives, rough chopped.

powered by plantz: Why I Cook
http://www.poweredbyplantz.com/p/why-i-cook.html
A few nights ago before bed, I was thumbing through an Ayurvedic cookbook. My life’s purpose, and then I look at all the ways in which I am incapable of carrying out said purpose due to lack of adequate training, experience, skills, audacity, etc. Now having this cookbook talk to me so nonchalantly about the special purpose thing was the last straw. It may as well have said, “Dude, everybody knows their life purpose, duh. What’s your problem? The result was that a perfectly intelligent, able bodied, reas...
