His reply, "The first thing you have to do is learn how to trust me," made the world slow down, like I was watching myself in a movie. A thousand thoughts rushed through my head and I knew that this opportunity was an adventure I couldn't pass up. I answered him with the coolest one-liner I could think of. Okay, let's do this.". A young college graduate embarks on a year-long teaching experience in a remote Alaskan village. Wednesday, October 1, 2008. After four months back in terrific, non-dry Washington, I am still searching for a true conclusion for my experience in Alaska. Something in me says that it isn't a conclusion at all.more like, a beginning. Well I have to go back for six more years to get into the retirement system anyways). Posted by Mr. Flarity. A young college graduate embarks on a year-long teaching experience in a remote Alaskan village. Wednesday, October 31, 2007. The only pumpkin in Shak-town. I'm really glad my friend Jackie sent me a pumpkin (among many other things) for my birthday. We laughed when she said, "Do you know how much that pumpkin cost me? Junior," the official (only) 2007 jack-o-lantern for Shaktoolik. A spooky sounds cd (track 6: chainsaw buzzing with wailing screams, is my personal favorite). It feels good to have a Shakt...

A young college graduate embarks on a year-long teaching experience in a remote Alaskan village. Saturday, January 26, 2008. A Real Shaktoolik Storm. The first 50 mph wind storm finally blew into town this week. The locals say it's a little late this year, but it is the first of many vicious blizzards. It doesn't really snow during the storm (or maybe it does? But the wind picks up so much of the snow that's already on the ground, it creates a "white-out" effect:. The only spot of the ice that concerned ...

Shipping 35 lb boxes (10) at $30 each = $300 dollars. One-way plane tickets: Seattle to Anchorage = $210. Anchorage to Nome = $200. Nome to Shaktoolik = $190. Costs $377, so that's not too bad.

A young college graduate embarks on a year-long teaching experience in a remote Alaskan village. Tuesday, May 20, 2008. My flight leaves in a mere 2 hours. I've never announced this fact on the blog.but I do not intend to return here next year. This truth is leaving me with a somewhat ominous feeling, mixed with the elation of returning home, but there's one thing that I'll be glad about. NO MORE SUNRISES AT 4 am! When we got back, I started a bonfire down by the beach and it attracted all of the village...

If anyone is wondering why I haven't been posting for a while.well that's because nothing terribly interesting has happened. Until now. Cyrus, a student out walking with me, is taking a video too! Flowing water is a beautiful sound. Cyrus and I were so elated that we even took a trip down to the dump! And check it out-seagulls! They only show up when spring is truly around the corner.
