http://runningontrail.blogspot.com/2012/07/lakeland-trails-coniston-marathon-2012.html
Steve Mee's long distance adventures. Tuesday, 17 July 2012. Lakeland Trails Coniston Marathon 2012. Being so close to the Lakeland 50 I missed this event last year but this year was going to be a real Spartan-fest, with 16 club members turning out across the Marathon, half and 10k. I couldn't say no! Gareth, Paul A and Alan studying the route. At Bank Ground farm. Having a great time with Paul at Tarn Hows, around 10 miles in. Paul and I went through half way in 2:02, both feeling as fresh as a daisy...

Running on Trail: June 2013
http://runningontrail.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Steve Mee's long distance adventures. Wednesday, 5 June 2013. Norley Primary School Sports Day Dads Beanbag Race. Alex bouncing to third place in the sack race. After the mums egg and spoon race came the big event. The bean bags were placed, the starter was ready and the finish line officials positioned themselves, poised eagle-eyed to count the finishers home. Meanwhile the dads strutted about the field, not wanting to get into position too soon or look each other in the eye. With a glance over his shou...

Running on Trail: Montane Lakeland 50
http://runningontrail.blogspot.com/2013/08/montane-lakeland-50.html
Steve Mee's long distance adventures. Thursday, 1 August 2013. Well, of course I have a few excuses! I had a stomach bug the week before the race and wasn’t fully over it. I don’t do well in the heat and conditions were tough this year. But ultimately what it comes down to is this. I thought I was capable of a sub 11 hrs Lakeland 50. The Spartan Army pre-race start. Standing right at the front (over on the right) with the quick boys. I started feeling better once over the top but eased back into the runn...

Running on Trail: February 2013
http://runningontrail.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Steve Mee's long distance adventures. Saturday, 23 February 2013. EnduranceLife CTS South Devon Ultra. It's not a race. You're not in racing shape so just treat this as a long, hilly training run. The goal is simply to enjoy the day, make it to the finish and collect 1 UTMB qualification point. That was the plan and it was one I was comfortable with.until about a week before the race when the devil on my shoulder started whispering. "Why not go out hard? What's the worst thing that can happen? It turns o...

Running on Trail: Running through Hell
http://runningontrail.blogspot.com/2012/11/running-through-hell.html
Steve Mee's long distance adventures. Monday, 5 November 2012. From the moment I hit submit on the entry form for the 2012 Hell Up North Hellrunner I had been dreading this race. I had a very definite game plan. One that would not be fun. This year I secretly wanted to go top 50. So, how would I go about getting a top 50 place at Hellrunner? Over the top and we hit the descent; now it's time to pass everyone who went by me on the climb. I open my stride, add in some bounce and accelerate to fly throu...

Running on Trail: January 2012
http://runningontrail.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Steve Mee's long distance adventures. Sunday, 8 January 2012. UTLD Recce - Ambleside to Coniston. Well, there haven't been any long distance adventures lately, or much running on trail. I had been struggling with heel pain going into the Sandstone Trail race but it's a pain I've had in the past and it's always just settled down. I knew I shouldn't have run the SST but convinced myself that it would be OK because all my mates were doing it. Silly! The running in the valley was muddy today but the navigati...

Running on Trail: March 2012
http://runningontrail.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Steve Mee's long distance adventures. Friday, 30 March 2012. UTLD Recce - Around Buttermere. This is a belated post from the recce weekend back in January. I was booked on to the official recce from Coniston to Buttermere: 25-ish miles over the toughest terrain on the course. I was very apprehensive because my achillies was still constantly aching and I had yet to get the results from the consultant so I didn't know if this run had the potential to cause serious damage. Morning light on Fleetwith Pike.

Steve Mee's long distance adventures. Saturday, 19 May 2012. ULTD Recce - Buttermere to Dalemain. This was an official recce day running 33 miles from Buttermere to Dalemain. I had never set foot on this section and looking at the map I had always though it looked pretty drab but after watching John Kynaston's excellent videos ( http:/ www.johnkynaston.com/p/lakeland-100-videos.html. Several times I couldn't wait to get out there. Stage 5: Buttermere to Braithwaite. Follow the path around three becks.
