The winters are about nine months long and are very cold and dark. Temperatures range from about -20 to -40 degrees celsius. Summers are short and cool. Temperatures range from about 10 to 18 degrees celsius.

What is it like to live in such a cold place where the land is covered with ice and snow, and there are a few hours of daylight during the winter? People must dress very warmly in the winter because of the cold winds. They wear long parkas that reach down to their knees. Clothing can be bought from a store, but some still wear the traditional (old ways) clothes when they go out on the land.
