The Red Soil Road

The Red Soil Road. Thursday, December 30, 2010. End of 2010 Update. In other news, we got a new puppy! I’m about 8 months pregnant now though still small. I guess I’m just one of those small pregnant ladies. Most people think I’m around 6 months because of my size. Due to her years of experience, Grandma was the only one who guessed I was 8 months! People keep telling me if I was an African I would be so fat by now! I must say for a first pregnancy I feel it has treated me fairly well thus far. Thankfull...

The Red Soil Road: October 2010

http://www.sharonhendricks.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

The Red Soil Road. Thursday, October 14, 2010. We thank God because as of 2 weeks ago, we are now car owners! No more public transportation for us. Well, of course we use taxis here and there but it feels different when you do it by choice rather than by force. So far it has been a huge blessing and we are just so thankful to God every time we use it. We are so excited and experiencing a lot of new things as we go through this for the first time. Please keep us in your prayers as we need them so much.

The Red Soil Road: An Addition to the Family

http://www.sharonhendricks.blogspot.com/2010/02/addition-to-family.html

The Red Soil Road. Tuesday, February 2, 2010. An Addition to the Family. Meet the newest member of our family! This is our new puppy O.B. We missed the boat the first time we had an opportunity to get one, but this time we didn’t hesitate. Now we’re the proud owners of a whimpering, flea-infested, ankle biter! Well, the fleas should be going soon with the help of meds, but I’m not sure when he’ll grow out of the other things. Also this month, Michael and I will be going once a week to an upcoming prescho...

The Red Soil Road: July 2010

http://www.sharonhendricks.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

The Red Soil Road. Thursday, July 22, 2010. Okay, so here are my attempts at making excuses as to why I haven’t written in so long:. 1 Everyday for the last 2 months our electricity has been off from about 9am to 6pm as the power company has been replacing their transformers. So of course businesses like internet cafe’s have been closed during the day. Could I have gone in the evenings? I used to love going out at night. Nine months later I’ve got it! I mean, someone had to make a funny memory. Was also ...

The Red Soil Road: January 2010

http://www.sharonhendricks.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

The Red Soil Road. Saturday, January 2, 2010. The Holidays in Uganda. One holiday that Ugandans know how to celebrate is New Year’s Eve. My goodness. Christmas can go by without notice but New Year’s…It was as if the whole country was in Kampala celebrating all night long! We also ate all the mangos we could possibly stuff ourselves with…well, at least those who were used to eating them. Most people had around 10 each. I managed to get 4 down – quite an achievement for me! I was so proud of him. He s...

The Red Soil Road: Moving Forward

http://www.sharonhendricks.blogspot.com/2010/09/moving-forward.html

The Red Soil Road. Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Hello to everyone who still reads this thing! Life without a laptop or anykind of PC is apparently not easy. Anyways, here’s an update on us. Also, we’ve seen how God is truly taking care of us as only one week after Michael left the restaurant, he was offered another job as manager of a guest house in Kireka (about halfway between Mukono and Kampala). The pay is about the same and the job is more flexible and less strenuous physically. We t...I know this...

Straddling Two Worlds....: Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow....oh wait, I live in Africa.

http://betsyskinuganda.blogspot.com/2009/12/let-it-snow-let-it-snow-let-it-snowoh.html

Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow.oh wait, I live in Africa. Enough on the weather, though. That was not the intent of my update. Moving on, earlier this week I attended a spiritual gifts seminar with some of the other WGM missionaries. During the seminar, I realized how little I know about spiritual gifts. Did you know there are somewhere between 23-30 separate spiritual gifts listed in the Bible? Thanks to those of you who actually read this, for your encouragement and ...

A Tale of Two Countries. Thursday, February 21, 2008. What I forgot to say:. When Vicky and Susan were explaining to me what the other students thought of them, Vicky said:. When they say that you are sponsoring Susan, we tell them yes. Just to bother them. If we said no, they wouldn't believe anyway. But we tell them yes so they will hang themselves from a tomato tree with toilet paper.". To which Susan leaned to me and explained,. You couldn't hang a, what? A lizard, from a tomato branch.". 8220;Tell m...

A Tale of Two Countries. Thursday, April 17, 2008. Webale Okusima. (Thank you for appreciating). Last night was neck-craning night. Jenny, you know my favorite time of day, when I’m not changing my mind by the hour. But do you know my favorite type of night sky? No, because I didn’t either until last night. But good guess. It’s a beautiful, communal sort of thing. The kids walking behind me kept laughing and saying, “Mzungu, you are smart,” smart in the “classily dressed” sense. I told them “Osaga,...

A Tale of Two Countries. Thursday, January 31, 2008. Sharon just quoted Celine Dion. I read some Hemingway last night; it was beautiful. I got home before everyone else, didn't know what to do myself, searched my suitcase for something that wasn't homework, and had a ball. When my mom came home, I was sitting on.a concrete slab? I don't even know what to call it. It was pretty dark outside. She said, "My baby! This is not to say that I do not enjoy Stevie Lennox's preaching at IWU. His chapels have a...

A Tale of Two Countries. Monday, March 31, 2008. Katelyn, this sky is for you. What a walk from a luncheon will do to you. Friday, March 28, 2008. Where do I start. This week has been wonderful, incredible, beautiful. I was already unzipping my bag as I walked into the house after school on Monday. I told her that Mom from Ohio sent her a present. Maybe 6 o clock evening marks the end of day? I was confused by this). So, I stood there, by that radio, and asked God, ‘Where is it? What do you have for me?

A Tale of Two Countries: November 2007

http://danielleuganda.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

A Tale of Two Countries. Thursday, November 22, 2007. Go through the motions, Adam. Act out being alive, like a play. And after awhile, a long while, it will be true. A fire once red and vast. Dwindling, whispering, blue now. Colder than I thought it could be, would be. Born red, it would die red, I thought. Falter was never a word it knew. Unchanging, constant, alive, is what it knew. Should I add to it, will I add to it? Should I stir it, breathe into it, bring it back? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Carpet of Petals

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined." - Henry David Thoreau. Saturday, February 15, 2014. The determined Pigeon without a toe! Posted by Sharon Hemitha. If you look closely, you will notice that this pigeon does not have its toes in one foot, yet is not any weaker than the rest of the pigeons in pecking around a chicken piece I shared with him. This is the 3rd time I saw this pigeon at the Paramatta train station and this time could not help feeding him. A view...

Spring Blossom, Autumn Sorrows

Monday, February 26, 2007. Have been doing pt at ikea for 3 days since last fri,. My job is to make kids happy. It's a simple, robotic, back-breaking yet fulfilling task;. Pump balloons and distribute them at the entrance. The pay is pretty good,. 6 bucks an hr. Thank goodness the pump does not require any muscles and brains,. Hence the process is smooth and fast. I can define what a real "hao nan ren" is after working w/ SY since the opening. Will discuss this later after i change a new blog skin haha.
