Sharon on Mt. Shasta: Unholy Meadow
http://shastasharon.blogspot.com/2012/06/unholy-meadow.html
Sharon on Mt. Shasta. For the month of June, 2012, I'll stay in Dunsmuir, a small Northern California town beside a great mountain. Thursday, June 21, 2012. A fifty-year-old blaze on a tree. To mark the trail. Past a little unnamed lake, and while crossing an unnamed meadow, it struck me. Why is this meadow unholy, or at least not recognized for spiritual richness, and Panther Meadow is? In a place unpopular. I find no connection. June 21, 2012 at 6:23 PM. June 21, 2012 at 7:51 PM. For me, in every meado...

Slot Canyons of Southwest Utah. During the month of August, 2012, I will stay in Kanab, Utah, and hike the depths of some narrow, fascinating canyons. Saturday, August 11, 2012. There is a place about forty miles southeast of Kanab that, when I saw pictures many months ago, I was convinced it was not real. The pictures were doctored and the tales of its grandeur were fabricated. August 12, 2012 at 12:55 PM. August 12, 2012 at 5:51 PM. Quiet indeed, unbelievable unless seen. August 24, 2012 at 3:14 PM.

Slot Canyons of Southwest Utah. During the month of August, 2012, I will stay in Kanab, Utah, and hike the depths of some narrow, fascinating canyons. Sunday, August 19, 2012. Ed Faulkner, born 1932. Peter Brown, born 1935. Several stars from those old shoot-em-up westerns rode into town for the event, and I played the part of a sneaky photo grabber. Here I am with two stars. Notice their birth dates and my lack of a birth date and how well preserved we are. Rob “Gabby” Doudel—. Gabby Hayes look alike.

Sharon's Tucson Wilderness: Finger Rock
http://sharon-in-tucson.blogspot.com/2012/01/finger-rock.html
I'm on another wild trip. Follow, if you like, to the mountains and deserts near Tucson, Arizona. Tuesday, January 3, 2012. 8220;I only went out for a walk, and finally concluded to stay out til sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.” John Muir 1913. High above Tucson to its north, a fist rises skyward, and on the fist, a finger points straight up. A trail heads toward it, and today I walked a steep canyon for a closer look. We call them acts of God, these natural disasters, but they are n...

Sharon on Mt. Shasta. For the month of June, 2012, I'll stay in Dunsmuir, a small Northern California town beside a great mountain. Wednesday, June 6, 2012. 8220;You are lost the moment you set foot here. You know the path but wander thrilled over the bare and pathless rock, as if it were solidified air and cloud. That rocky, misty summit, secreted in the clouds, was far more thrillingly awful and sublime than the crater of a volcano spouting fire.”. 8212;Henry David Thoreau, Journal. I fell at the top.

Slot Canyons of Southwest Utah. During the month of August, 2012, I will stay in Kanab, Utah, and hike the depths of some narrow, fascinating canyons. Monday, August 6, 2012. But I don’t mind waiting, and have plenty of up-mountain walks mapped and ready. They will not treat me like a spider in a storm drain. Still, I hope to enter several of the narrow, water-carved slots that were created by days like today, but to so between creation events. August 6, 2012 at 7:46 PM. I'm on another wild trip. Follow, if you like, to the mountains and deserts near Tucson, Arizona. Sunday, January 15, 2012. The campus of U-of-A is much larger than Caltech in Pasadena. At first it seems less important, more technological, with laboratories for pratical pursuits. It has buildings for strange studies like the Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques Center and the building for Modern Languages. It has sororities where girls have girls’ bicycles and ride on the campus bike trails. So glad...

I'm on another wild trip. Follow, if you like, to the mountains and deserts near Tucson, Arizona. Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Yesterday I rambled about my trek up to Juniper Basin where I camped in the Rincon Mountains of Saguaro National Park. Today, I give you the rest of the story. I camped high above the desert at about six thousand feet, among pinion pines, junipers and live oaks, without a single call of bird—the quietest place I have ever camped. Soon I began to see my destination—Tanque Verd...

Sharon's Tucson Wilderness: French Joe Canyon
http://sharon-in-tucson.blogspot.com/2012/01/french-joe-canyon.html
I'm on another wild trip. Follow, if you like, to the mountains and deserts near Tucson, Arizona. Thursday, January 5, 2012. I attended a poetry group last evening where we read and received comments. They’re an attentive group, listeners, and their reactions gave no offense. I started toward the mountains on the shortest road by map, but soon found that my Toyota Tacoma was no match for it. This road is for jeeps or macho pickups. So I parked and walked toward the mouth of French Joe Canyon. Walking it ...
