There's room for every kind of thought. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Mixed Bag: Books and links. August 20, 2012. It’s been a while since I chronicled my reads here at The Literary Shack. And the itch to update you all on my progress has finally turned into an urge to put my fingers on the keyboard. Talking about typing reminds of this beautiful post I read recently on Londoner’s Musings on The Delight of Handwriting. The first one to get whim-picked was Vintage Stuff. Hastily on m...

"Twentysomething": A Change Will Do You Good
http://andthistimeconcentrate.blogspot.com/2014/07/a-change-will-do-you-good.html
Writer, runner, nurse. Sunday, July 6, 2014. A Change Will Do You Good. Good things have happened in the last 6 weeks or so since we have visited. 1 I did get a new job! This past week was the beginning of orientation at the new hospital. I'm thrilled. But I get to make my own schedule. And the commute is only 15 minutes! 3 Percolating a new book. My latest is in the hands of final beta readers/critique partners. Then I have to decide what the heck I'm going to do with it. 4 I had surgery! I realized I h...

"Twentysomething": June 2013
http://andthistimeconcentrate.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Writer, runner, nurse. Thursday, June 13, 2013. Getting in the Write frame of mind. Now that the major stress of nursing school is behind me, I'm trying to find my way through the new stress of a new job, a new career, and the sometimes seemingly-impossible challenge of being a new nurse. Most of all, I'm desperate to get back into a routine that allows for both working (and working extra), and still spending time on doing the things I love, like writing and running. For 2 years, this being the third.

Can I Get a Side of Reality With That?: How do you capture ideas?
http://jem5.blogspot.com/2012/05/how-do-you-capture-ideas.html
Can I Get a Side of Reality With That? A blog rife with word nerdery. Monday, May 21, 2012. How do you capture ideas? I think any creative type knows the drill: you're walking out to your car and inspiration hits. Or you're just about to hop in the shower when that scene you've been agonizing over finally crystallizes. Or worse yet, you're deep in revisions (dreaded, dreaded revisions) and a shiny new idea smacks you upside the head. What do you do? So how do you capture ideas? May 21, 2012 at 10:14 AM.

Can I Get a Side of Reality With That? A blog rife with word nerdery. Thursday, July 26, 2012. What does it mean to be a geek girl? I'm going a little off topic today (which would imply I'm ever ON topic, which I'm not). I read an interesting article on CNN (see the article here. No And I'm not a fan of anyone leveraging a pretend interest in something just to get their foot in the door. But what really struck me about the article were the comments. The internet a little more, but it's horribly indicativ...

"Twentysomething": April 2014
http://andthistimeconcentrate.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Writer, runner, nurse. Tuesday, April 22, 2014. It's Dusty In Here. Hey blog. Feeling neglected? It's okay. You'll get over it. I thought I'd keep on the roll of the every-four-months blog post. Because, why not? Things are good. I've been an RN for almost a year now, shy of a few weeks. It's pretty awesome, though it consumes 99% of my life. I'm getting a promotion in May. I'll be the charge nurse on one rotation. Scary, exciting, good opportunity. Supposed to be a teacher- just not an English teacher!

Can I Get a Side of Reality With That?: Cliffhangers: leave them wanting...
http://jem5.blogspot.com/2013/02/cliffhangers-leave-them-wanting.html
Can I Get a Side of Reality With That? A blog rife with word nerdery. Monday, February 11, 2013. Cliffhangers: leave them wanting. DID YOU SEE THAT COMING? Cliffhangers are sooo good. When they're done right, but I've found there are just as many ways to go wrong with them. Cheesy intros, false cliffhangers, killing tension - you worked too hard to shoot your cliffhanger in the foot. So my humble thoughts on how to do cliffhangers right (by telling you what you're doing wrong, YOU'RE WELCOME):. If you wa...

Writing, reading, laughing all the time. WORDS ARE, IN MY NOT-SO-HUMBLE OPINION, OUR MOST INEXHAUSTIBLE SOURCE OF MAGIC. CAPABLE OF BOTH INFLICTING INJURY, AND REMEDYING IT." ALBUS DUMBLEDORE. Monday, July 16, 2012. THE ARCHIVED by Victoria Schwab (ARC Giveaway). Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive. Let me just start by saying, I loved Victoria's first YA, The Near Witch.

Can I Get a Side of Reality With That? A blog rife with word nerdery. Monday, June 25, 2012. And this is why I don't tell family I write. Oh, that's a nice hobby, I like to knit. What are you writing about? Can I read it? Hurry up and get published already! What does your husband think about this? Honestly got that question). I've got an idea for a children's book about a penguin that flies in space. What one question/comment do you get the most? Which do you hope you never hear again? The time has come.
