Career advice for the new photographer. How to *actually* start a photography business for $2000. October 27, 2008 in Inspirational. Again, sorry for the lag in posting. I came across this post. More likely, when you’re ready to turn pro, you already own an assortment of gear that, to some extent, works for you. So, how would I spend that $2000? Buy a domain – $100 – You’re a professional? Not on flickr, you’re not. Make sure you’re hosted without ads, too. To sell prints to wedding and portrait customers.

Career advice for the new photographer. I’ve been infringed upon! November 3, 2008 in Photography Business. Shame on me for not getting a nice contract signed for this work. I chalk it up to inexperience, and now I’ve learned that I don’t press the shutter until I have a signed contract. November 4, 2008 at 2:52 pm. Sadly though, without a written contract, this could quickly break down into a he said/she said dispute that could do more harm than good. I am all for protecting rights, it’s what ...I dont ...

Career advice for the new photographer. What I’m focusing on in 2009. December 15, 2008 in Inspirational. It’s crazy that “hey, i should post to my blog” turns into a month of no posts. Back to the drawing board, re: getting this thing to occur regularly. Nevermind that, though. You don’t come here to listen to me beat myself up, so I won’t bore you with it. I can afford to make smarter decisions in 2009, even if some of them are mistakes, and that’s the best progress I can hope for. Laquo; On Proposals.

Career advice for the new photographer. November 15, 2008 in Photography Business. I read this really awesome post. Over on freelance folder recently, and immediately took to the idea. Basically, the idea is that you should offer customer tiered services options, like small, medium, or large. It’s not just tiers, though, it can also be varieties of service, like chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. November 22, 2008 at 2:23 am. Looking forward to do business with you. Career advice for the new photographer. How to work for free. December 18, 2008 in Photography Business. I’d like to put in my .02 on this set of posts from strobist. And john harrington ( 1. You gotta watch that video). Strobist and Jarvis seem to think that as long as you get SOMETHING for your time, like unique access or circumstances, working for free can be a good deal. By the same logic, if you find a fist-sized diamond on the sidewalk, and sell it for a $1, that is also a good deal. Photo Business...

The Loss Leader | clique

Career advice for the new photographer. October 28, 2008 in Marketing for photographers. Last few months, I’ve been experimenting with the concept of a loss leader. While I am not advocating that you ever do work at a loss, photographers can use this concept. Try offering an introductory photo shoot at a low rate for new customers, and then present them with an opportunity to buy a multi-shoot package, or an upgrade on a print package.
