Tableau Forums Digest #7. Zen Master [to be? Anytime a Zen Master calls your solution ‘brilliant’ you go to the head of the class, (and this digest). Catherine Rivier worked out a clever way to combine an area chart with a line chart. That shows (or not) multiple marks on multiple axes using a pseudo-dual set of Measure Values/Names. And she explains it better than I just did. [Tableau I’m assuming Tableau Zen Masters aren’t an all-boys club by design? Good to hear.]. Jonathan Drummey posted of interest&...

Here you go…. 8230;spent some considerable time writing a few detailed answers this week. He explains the difference between “compute” and “load”. Relating to Server performance. He also showed the proper format and syntax. For passing date filter parameters. We’re all happy you took the time out from talking , to do a little writing Russell. 🙂. But make sure to read to ...

Tableau Forums Digest #10. Thought I’d start with this week’s unanswered question: How to do a COUNTD() of a rolling window. Edited per Alex’s comment below.] Joshua, Jonathan and Alex all put in a bit of time on this one, so there are ideas to build on, but nobody has gotten there yet. Want to give it a try? If you’re struggling with table calculations, Alex gives an in-depth explanation of partitioning. Blog on partitioning by table calculations. Ranking Ties With Suffix. Tableau Forums Digest #8. I’m sure we all enjoy watching a master at work; that’s why we go to the theater, attend concerts, and even watch sports. This week the Tableau community was treated to a command performance by Alex Kerin it was a joy to watch! The depth and breadth of his Tableau mastery was on full display, ranging from table calculations to handle dates. To Haseeb Iqbal’s question about Tableau’s support for the Hijri calendar. And null date behavior. But his posts showing how to fill-in data.

Tableau Forums Digest #9. American) football took up way too much of my time this weekend, so this week’s Digest is less commentary, and more of the good stuff: people and links. [One note, I’m going to start using some abbreviations after names to help newcomers identify who’s who on the forums. TE=Tableau Employee, TP=Tableau Partner, ZM=Zen Master.]. Before hitting the road Alex Kerin answered a question on bucketing data dynamically. And one using an advanced table calculation. To set a sort order.

Tinkering With Binning LOD Expressions « Tableau Tinkering

https://tableautinkering.wordpress.com/2015/05/01/tinkering-with-binning-lod-expressions

Tinkering With Binning LOD Expressions. Like I said in one of my first tinkering blogs, a lot of what I learn is from tinkering around with some question I find on the Tableau Forums. I found this question today: I want to get count based on number of counts. Count number of tests for each patient. Bin the patients by total number of tests they’ve been given. Calculate the percent of the total each bin contributes to the whole. FIXED [Patient ID] : COUNTD([Test LIS Code])}. That’s right, we can now...

Tinkering with Johan’s Unified Dates. Johan’s Unified Dates. Before the holidays Johan Sivertsen (Kettan) posted an interesting workbook on our Tableau forums as an answer to the often ask year-over-year comparison question. His solution was both elegantly simple, and complex — at the same time! Here’s his original workbook. This is the formula he’s using:. DATE(DATEADD(‘year’, 2000 – YEAR([Order Date]), [Order Date]). Here’s how this function works:. DATEADD(date part, increment, date). The original quest...

Tinkering with Data Refresh & Auto-Refresh. This week I was tinkering with ways of auto-refreshing data on an unattended computer and discovered how different Desktop and Server are in regard to refreshing data. Let’s start with user invoked refreshes, before getting into auto-refreshes. Note: if after you first load the view into your browser, you edit the URL by adding? The most common way to refresh your data in Server is to click the refresh icon at the top of the view:. So these are the ways a user ...

Tinkering With LOD Expressions & Percent of Total « Tableau Tinkering

https://tableautinkering.wordpress.com/2015/05/08/tinkering-with-lod-expressions-percent-of-total

Tinkering With LOD Expressions and Percent of Total. If you are anything like me, you skim a lot of blogs about Tableau, note the gist of the post and leave reading the details for later. This morning I finally got to ‘later’ for Bora Beran’s excellent introduction to LOD Expressions. And I’m glad I did. This image he posted caught my eye, stuck in my head, and really helped me get a visual understanding of what LODs are doing especially when it comes to Percent of Total calculations. They will be ignored.

It's not rocket science, it's computer science

It's not rocket science, it's computer science. Wednesday, June 19, 2013. A daily standup is, as the name implies, a meeting that happens every day (and where people stand up). The essence of this meeting is that there are three questions that every team member should be answering:. 1 What did I do yesterday? 2 What am I doing today? 3 What impediments do I have? The meeting itself is very short, timeboxed to 15 minutes maximum. 1 It's called a standup for a reason. 2 It's not a social call. Often I will...
