As a child, whenever a few Kari leaves were needed for a dish, the standard was to run downstairs and pluck a stalk off the tree. Kari Patta was never bought in a store. One either had their own tree or at most, the neighbors most certainly had one and were generous to share. I have missed having a Kari tree and recently visited the home of an Indian lady in Tucson who was easily growing Kari!
