To the Gastronomes: April 2008
http://tothegastronomes.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Food Reviews and Related Observations. Saturday, April 26, 2008. Note: Hydrate with a Homemade Bread Humidor. Cookies, cakes, and other baked goods will quickly dehydrate. You can use ordinary, mega-mart bread to keep them fresh, or to repair slightly overdone goods that are dry and crumbly from the start. Simply toss a slice of bread in the tupperware or ziploc with whatever it is you're trying to keep moist. The water in the bread will gradually evaporate and your baked goods will absorb it. When tomat...

Food Reviews and Related Observations. Tuesday, April 22, 2008. The Tomato. Lycopersicum. Although tomatoes are among the top three vegetables consumed in the U.S. (sources vary), their growing season is painfully short. Furthermore, interstate import of tomatoes is inhibited by the impracticably rapid rate at which they decay. Here's a few observations that will help you get the most out of what the Chinese call "foreign eggplant". 1) Don't Refrigerate Tomatoes that aren't Fully Ripe. Tomatoes contain c...

To the Gastronomes: Review: Starbucks' Pike Place Roast

Food Reviews and Related Observations. Thursday, April 10, 2008. Review: Starbucks' Pike Place Roast. March 4, 2009 at 9:25 AM. Aroma like burning plastic. So acidic you could probably wash mortar off bricks with it. Extremely bitter, so that by pouring out and displacing 1/3 of the venti cup of coffee with milk or hot water, it is still intensely bitter. Burnt tasting, as if you dropped in some ground charcoal in during the brewing process. March 11, 2009 at 2:11 PM. July 21, 2009 at 10:05 AM. Subscribe...

The Salty Side: July 2010
http://thesaltyside.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
New house. new job. new moon. I have been wanting to write a new blog post for over a month now, but have just kept pushing it back and pushing it back. I think most of my procrastination can be attributed to the fact that there is just too much to share! But I finally said to myself, "Self, enough is enough." So here are some tidbits. Also, I start a new job on Monday! And the most important update is that I have finally seen the first two teen-vampire-werewolf movies, and let me tell you they are AMAZI...

The Salty Side: March 2010
http://thesaltyside.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Here is my St. Patrick's Day blog post. First you should know that I have decided to call it St. Patty's Day because I think it sounds more Irish. Second, I have a few suggestions for how you might celebrate St. Patty's special day. You could dress up like a leprechaun. Don't tell me you've never thought about it. The Salty Side: wrapped.
http://thesaltyside.blogspot.com/2009/12/wrapped.html
Gift wrapping is one of my very favorite things to do. Tim always makes fun of me because he thinks I spend too much time wrapping gifts. But I can't help it, I love doing it. Sometimes I end up liking the way I wrapped a gift better than the actual gift itself. Here's what I came up with:. Newspaper from the recycle bin at the Pourhouse. Reused scrap paper from work used for printing the polar bear pics and typing the tags. Hemp to tie packages together (leftover from my junior high hemp bracelet phase).
