Shelf Life: St. Patrick's Day read

http://shelflifeblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/st-patricks-day-read.html

So many books, so little time. Saturday, March 17, 2012. St Patrick's Day read. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I'm beginning John Banville's novel The Sea. It's something I've wanted to read forever, not just because it won the Man Booker, but because so many people say Banville's writing is strange and beautiful. Also, it's a stormy day here, and I think the book will fit my mood. Maybe I'll bake some soda bread and have some tea while I read. The Sea is on my TBR. Ive heard mixed reviews of it. Alone W...

http://shelflifeblog.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

So many books, so little time. Thursday, August 11, 2011. Vacation Travel Reading: The East Coast. Well, I'm finally back to blogging after a summer off. It was unplanned, but it turned out that my kids were so busy this summer, I spent my time driving them around Los Angeles (even during "Carmageddon"! We are sailing out of Brooklyn, New York (who knew? On my very first visit to Maine, I'm planning to read Sarah Orne Jewett’s classic novel, The Country of the Pointed Firs. By Elizabeth Strout, is also s...

I used to hide the covers of Harlequin Romances when I read them as a young teenager. Embarrassing! Do you carry books with you? Labels: booking through thursday. Sunday, September 18, 2011. Evacuated to a hotel because of th...

Shelf Life: Spring Break Reading

http://shelflifeblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/spring-break-reading.html

So many books, so little time. Wednesday, March 28, 2012. On spring break, my son is madly reading The Hunger Games. Trilogy before going to see the movie. He finished the first book in a day, and is now chugging through the second. The third is waiting on his nightstand. I've got a few things picked out for spring break reading, as well. By Abraham Verghese has been on my radar screen for awhile now, and I finally picked up a copy. My cousin recommended the memoir Wild. And the lovely Ti at Book Chatter.

Shelf Life: The Sense of an Ending, by Julian Barnes, a review

http://shelflifeblog.blogspot.com/2012/04/sense-of-ending-by-julian-barnes-review.html

So many books, so little time. Monday, April 16, 2012. The Sense of an Ending, by Julian Barnes, a review. I just finished reading Julian Barnes's novel, The Sense of an Ending. April 17, 2012 at 11:34 AM. That happens to me all the time with Kindle books. They count all the non-story pages in the percentage count so you think you have 3% left and then BAM, the book is over. LOL. April 17, 2012 at 2:16 PM. I now was with more knowledge. But it also left me wanting just a little bit more. It makes no sens...

Julia and harry.and me. Musings about raising my kid in the age of Potter. Saturday, July 11, 2009. The luckiest little girl in the world gets popcorn and HP for breakfast. Could there be a happier seven year old than one that gets woken up at 6:45 in the morning on a Saturday by her mom saying - honey, Holly wants to take us to the friends and family screening of HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE but you gotta get up now? Julia and harry.and me. Musings about raising my kid in the age of Potter. Wednesday, April 6, 2011. My kid isn't a roller coaster fan - she inherited that from me and Mike - but she went on a Forbidden Journey at 8 o'clock in the morning -. We wended our way through the greenhouse at Hogwarts, made our way down a dark hallway and past portraits who talked to us (hello Fat Lady! We saw Dumbledore, Harry, Hermione and Ron. Even the waiting was magical. And therefore not much like waiting. View my complete...
