Shenandoah Tool Works is the collaboration of two Virginia woodworkers and carvers Jeff Fleisher and Norm Reid who saw the need for high quality woodworking tools at an affordable price. Our premium steel mallet heads are fabricated in a Vermont family-owned foundry. The handles are hand turned to our own specifications in our New Market and Delaplane workshops. A birdcage awl designed for both beauty and functionality, the Shenandoah Awl has been designed to a level of perfection that makes it the craftsman's ideal for starting and drilling holes. The awl's shaft is hand-forged and twisted from 01 steel with a Rockwell hardness of 62. The tip is sharpened for use in starting and boring holes which the square shank then widens through repeated twisting. The finger grip is positioned in precisely the right place to enable a firm grip in use.
