Wednesday, February 13, 2008. Leftover Pork Goulash, Take 2: Pork Lasagna. That one measly pork shoulder turns out to be the gift that keeps on giving. Combining it with some leftover lasagna noodles we had lying around proved a pretty good use. Of course, we didn't have tomato sauce or ricotta lying around, so we had to improvise a bit. This is enough to make a mini-plate (about 9 inches by 4 inches). It would serve 2 or 3 light eaters, or ½ a heavy eater. 1 cup shredded leftover pork shoulder. Spread o...

Sunday, March 29, 2009. Images are clam pizza and baguettes made with the same dough). Ever wonder what to do with those cans of clams that are always on sale? Serves 1/4 of a true gourmet). 1 serving pain a l'ancienne dough. 189; can chopped clams (drained, with liquid reserved). 188; cup chopped garlic. 1 Place pizza stone in oven. 8 Add a small amo...

Saturday, July 7, 2012. Veggie French Onion Soup, Family Style (leftover Italian bread). In our area, there is an Italian bakery that supplies excellent fresh baked bread to every market. We can say with confidence that it's made without preservatives. The reason is that it becomes stale almost as quickly as you drive home with it. But nothing beats it for a sandwich. French Onion Soup, Family-Style. 3 medium onions, thinly sliced (or more, if you like). 1 medium onion, roughly chopped. 1/2 cup white wine.

Monday, August 31, 2009. Teriyaki Chicken Wraps with Miso Dressing. When it comes to food, the three most important things are decidedly not location, location, location. Our favorite local Japanese restaurant sits in a depressing strip mall between a Latin-fusion dive (rapidly going out of business) and a More Than Just Nuts store. 1 tsp red miso. 1 tsp brown sugar. 1 Whisk the first four ingredients together. 2 Taste, adjust, then add water to thin to desired consistency. 188; cup soy sauce. 2 Assemble...

Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Vodka Cabbage Lasagna (leftover cabbage). Nope, it's not a new way to get your teenagers to eat their veggies. We just used a traditional (if there is such a thing) penne ala vodka sauce to punch up a veggie lasagna. And as usual, the types of vegetables or cheeses you use can be tailored to whatever you have in your fridge. 1 small head of cabbage, sliced and with the core removed. 1 large sweet potato, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch chunks. 4 ounces brick mozzarella cheese, grated.

Wednesday, June 27, 2012. Pasta Frittata (leftover spaghetti). Oh, you could microwave up that little bit of leftover pasta and meat sauce for lunch. Yes, it’d be good.
