i need a new username. - The Pearl of Civilization
http://pearlofcivilization.net/2011/03/27/i-need-a-new-username
I need a new username. 27 Mar 2011, 15:23 · internet. This has been sitting as a draft since Jan 2009! I’ve been “ookpik” online since 1997, when i took the name from a kids’ poem that i liked. it’s an inuit word for owl. it’s also the name of a kind of furry owl doll made for tourists. i thought that was ok for a long time, but now i think it’s too much appropriation and colonial weirdness. so i need a new username. Something about having no nicknames make me sad. 183; 27 March 2011, 20:48.

Coulonge River, Quebec. Ontario’s Far North. Snake River, Yukon. Great Bear Rainforest Tours. Why we share stories. Recently my old friend Leeyann, whom I had not seen for 10 years, got in touch with me through my website. Besides being a wonderful person, she is a mom these days. It turns out that her two year old son, Thomas, was quite taken with some of the photos on my website, and Leeyann asked if I could send her some prints to hang in his bedroom. So thank you Thomas and thank you Leeyann. I h...

Andrew Leach's energy, climate, and oil sands blog. Why Rescuing the Frog? Conflict of Interest Disclosure. Finite Resources and Infinite Growth. Finite Resources and Infinite Growth. January 31, 2014. Today’s Globe and Mail featured a column by Gary Mason. 8221; This is a common refrain from environmentalists such as David Suzuki ( here. And likely a thousand other places): “it’s absurd to rely on economies based on constant growth on a finite planet.” But, is it? So, how do you increase productivity?

Thoughts on the Human Condition. October 9, 2013. 10 Paradoxical Traits Of Creative People. A nifty article from Fast Company highlighting some of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s (oh just calm down spellchecker) work in his 1996 book on Creativity. I have always liked Mihaly and it was fun to see this again after having forgotten about it for so long. I guess that’s what “think outside the box” means! Thoughts on the Human Condition. Ride along on the Outside of the Space Shuttle. October 6, 2013. Now here is a nifty little bit of video. Video from a camera mounted on one of the Solid Rocket Boosters. First it goes up, then it comes all the way back down. There is also audio, which is sorta neat. Cleaned up and enhanced right here at home in Marin at Skywalker Sound. If you want to see what happens to the boosters, and get some idea of their size, you can watch this video. October 1, 2013. Chaos | The Daily Wyatt
https://thedailywyatt.wordpress.com/2016/05/09/chaos
Thoughts on the Human Condition. May 9, 2016. The pavement was so hot it was sticking to my shoes as I milled about aimlessly in the middle of the road with the uncountable masses. No private cars were moving today as the entire city was blocked off and open only to foot traffic and the horse-mounted Security Volunteers. Every now and then a shout, raised voices, a brief scuffle nearby and the human herd would shift, compress as it tried to edge away from the enforcers. The talk would pick up for a w...
