Seder | A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook
https://shiksamrs.wordpress.com/food-for-thought/seder
A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Seder is one of those words that gets casually thrown around a lot. The word seder means “order,” and when you think of a seder, you usually think of Passover. At Passover, the seder is an entire ritual of readings and blessings that take place before, during and after the meal. Pingback: Chicken Soup A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook. Chanukah | A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook
https://shiksamrs.wordpress.com/food-for-thought/chanukah
A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. I would venture that, even if you’ve heard of no other Jewish holiday, you’ve heard of Chanukah. Yes, I spelled it with the CH. I’ve also seen it done as Hanukkah (the version my spell check likes best) or other ways that have fewer Ks, more Hs etc. There seems to be no consensus! I chose the CH for no other reason then this is the way my husband writes it. Oof, sorry, I got a little off topic there! 8221; Sorry, I get so easily distracted by li...
Shiksa? Huh? | A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook
https://shiksamrs.wordpress.com/shiksa-huh
A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. What is a Shiksa? I first came across the word shiksa when my husband was trying to teach me some Hebrew and Yiddish words. The “ch” sounds (in words like challah) was proving too difficult and I was getting frustrated. Laughing, he said “Ok, here is an easy one.” and told me to try saying “shiksa.”. So what does it mean? Want a few examples? Of course you do! Elaine is told she has “shiksappeal” and Charlotte from. Sex and the City. However, yo...

Cajun Style Salmon with Grilled Zucchini | A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook

A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Cajun Style Salmon with Grilled Zucchini. May 12, 2012. As I flip through my cookbooks and stacks of recipes that I save for the blog, I’m realizing just how many fish dishes there are in the mix! There is definitely a tradition of fish cookery and a real variety of what flavors or sauces are added to it. I’m ok with that, since “they” all say that fish is really healthy for you and it cooks up quickly! We made it on the grill, since the weather...

A Shiksa in the Holy Land
A Shiksa in the Holy Land. A Photo and Poetry Travel Blog of a non- Jew in a very Jewish place. On Easter Sunday in the Old City. Everyone but jews and arabs. Wait for something other than heat. To rise and burn off. Out of the ordinary. He may rise again. An arab booby trap. Under the wall there are old streets. Stone instead of asphalt. Columns instead of curbstone. Crosses instead of street signs. There is talk he will come. Blink and watch us disappear. Or believe everything he had ever said.

Shiksa*ism | Musings of a Former Shiksa
Musings of a Former Shiksa. Feminism , Tots & Vacation. August 12, 2015. School has been keeping me insanely busy and… I love it! For my “women and religion” course I wrote a short primer for the “radical progressive-feminist child” that touches upon the messages of a few theologians. It proved a hard task and I’m sure no child will be able to understand what I wrote. Sooooo you just get the cover page. Continue reading →. Jesus Christ Super Adjective. July 23, 2015. A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook
A Shiksa Mrs. Learns to Cook. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. November 22, 2014. Challah may have been my first introduction to Jewish food, but that was an introduction of my own making. Now kreplach, that was something my husband invited me to do with him. I recognized even at the time what a mark of favor that was! You see, this recipe is one of those treasured family creations. It is the staple at every holiday dinner and it is just assumed that a big batch will be a key part of the meal. Just so you k...

Finding My Path to Peace. It’s All About Love: The Life and Death of My Father, Andre Martheleur. Bull;October 20, 2010 • 4 Comments. As they walked through the door, it was as if I was looking into a three-way mirror. In them, I saw the reflection of my face, my features and my soul. We were uncomfortable sitting in the same room or breathing the same ai...
