Shinjuku Daily Photo

Monday, April 23, 2012. Hole in the Wall. Last month was filled with so many "Nomikai," which is what we call going out to drink and eat. It was the end of the fiscal year so we always have many nomikai to say farewell to coworkers who have been transferred or are leaving the company. This was one of the random bars we found for our second stop of the night. It had an American theme with vintage posters and weird chandelier.which I really liked. Plus their nachos were good, too! Shinjuku Daily Photo: Tunnel of Sakura

http://shinjukudailyphoto.blogspot.com/2012/04/tunnel-of-sakura.html

Monday, April 9, 2012. It wasn't exactly blue skies outside when I took this but I kind of liked how retro the shot turned out. And it almost doesn't matter that you can't see the blue sky because there are cherry trees growing on both sides covering the river. We were wondering what it would be like to climb down and walk in the river and see the cherry blossoms from below.wouldn't that be awesome? April 09, 2012 9:02 PM. April 10, 2012 9:36 PM. April 09, 2012 9:29 PM. That is a lovely image, Kaori!

Friday, March 30, 2012. Today was the last business day of this fiscal year. I'm so bad at saying good byes.but this time around, I'm the one leaving my sector. And although my new position will only mean that I have to move a little bit down the office and I can still see everyone everyday, it's still good bye. Are you ready for April? Enjoy looking at more beautiful skies all around the world here. Friday, March 23, 2012. These plum blossoms were in full bloom a few weeks ago. Wednesday, March 21, 2012.

Saturday, December 31, 2011. Just Around The Corner. Oh 2012, is that you? Can you believe it's almost here already? I hope you are all having a great time partying or relaxing at home to welcome the new year. Many houses in Japan will be watching NHK's Annual Ko-haku Music Show. There have actually been many non-Japanese artist that have performed in the Ko-haku. Artists like Cyndi Lauper, who sang I Drove All Night in 1990, and Andy Williams, who sang Moon River in 1991. Happy New Years Eve to you all!

Monday, February 20, 2012. Remember the curry shop. I posted about the other day? Well, they have these drawings outside their restaurant that are bright and sunny. They make me smile.just like the sun in the drawing below! Saturday, February 18, 2012. I used to giggle over the corniest knock-knock jokes when I was a kid. And for some reason, this door that has obviously not been used in the longest time, reminded me of them. Wonder how long it's been since someone knocked on this door? Right after the w...

Thursday, January 26, 2012. This is the end of the large rope that rings the bell at Hikawa Shrine (氷川神社). The proper way to pray varies slightly depending on the shrine but many go like this:. 1 Step up and ring the bell. 4 Pray (don't forget to say your name! And throw coins in offering box. The reason we ring the bells and clap before we pray is, not only to wake up the gods and get their attention, but the sound also purifies our aura and allows us to communicate more clearly with the gods. I've been...

Far Away Blog: Raising a Bilingual Child: Code Switching

http://kobekevin.blogspot.com/2013/08/raising-bilingual-child-code-switching.html

Monday, August 12, 2013. Raising a Bilingual Child: Code Switching. Code Switching - Up close and personal. I have to admit that watching my son’s language development is absolutely amazing. I grew up in “one language” household. My family used English. Now, my family in Japan uses both English in the house and outside as well. In linguistics, code switching is switching between two or more language varieties, in the context of a single conversation. You can follow me on Twitter: @jlandkev. I also found ...

Friday, August 16, 2013. I Want to go on an Adventure. Have you ever wanted to do something amazing? Have you ever wanted to do something so cool that you could look back on it for years and years and be proud you did it? Have you ever wanted to do something so “off the wall” that would be able to amaze people with the tales for years to come? The second thing holding me back from running off into the great outdoors and doing something incredible…money. Big adventures don’t tend to come c...Known as one ...

Sunday, October 21, 2012. Japanese Mafia Headquarters.I take a look! So here’s the deal. I am coming near the end of my training for Osaka Marathon 2012. To the other, but decided something a little new for this morning’s 31km (20 mile) run. I wanted to make it a “destination” run so to speak. I decided that I would check out the compound that is the headquarters of the Yamaguchi-gumi. The Yamaguchi-gumi is the largest organized crime syndicate in Japan and is what is known as the yakuza. Didn't want to ...

Monday, January 14, 2013. Constantly Talking: a teaching tool. One piece of advice I give to new teachers, especially ones teaching second language learners is to constantly speak to them and ask them questions. This of course gives them more opportunities to hear English as well think in the language and speak it. Practice, practice, practice! The more you practice anything, the better you will become. Learning a language is no different. Today I went for a walk with my son and spoke to him the entire t...

Far Away Blog: 5 Scariest Bugs in Japan

http://kobekevin.blogspot.com/2013/08/5-scariest-bugs-in-japan.html

Friday, August 23, 2013. 5 Scariest Bugs in Japan. Scariest Insects in Japan. My Top 5 List (I realize that not all are "technically" bugs). Recently I was asked a question on my YouTube Facebook page. About creepy crawly things. Someone who plans to move to Japan shared with me that they are very frightened of spiders and fear they may have an allergy. They wondered if there are many spiders one should fear in Japan. Japanese Giant Hornet (Suzumebachi):. These fairly reclusive creatures tend to stay in ...

Awaji Island Starbucks | starbucksinjapan

https://starbucksinjapan.wordpress.com/2011/09/18/awaji-island-starbucks

What's new at Starbucks in Japan. There are people lined up out the door.”. Starbucks is really just like a family! Doesn’t matter how long you haven’t seen them, they still remember your name, your kids name and your drink order! That is true love! While there is only seating for about 30 or so, it was never full while we were there. So if you want to spend time sitting and enjoying the view, there will be room inside as well outside! It will be fun to compare the atmosphere at each store! Sep 28, 2011.
