Venturing into pot-limit Omaha - nick marden. Venturing into pot-limit Omaha. Feb 7th, 2005 01:44 pm. I have spent a lot of time playing $1-$2 and $2-$4 no-limit Hold 'Em on PokerRoom. Recently, and have managed to steadily build my bankroll there from $250 to just under $1500. I feel that the games are beatable, even if they do require patience. When the flop is K. Only to be chatted by Bradley "bkuhnebborg: top pair no good". I look forward to learning more of the subtleties of this game - not only to ...

Not dropping second-best hands: a huge leak - nick_marden

Not dropping second-best hands: a huge leak - nick marden. Not dropping second-best hands: a huge leak. Feb 11th, 2005 04:29 pm. Since I have been playing so much NL HE recently, I have been fighting with a beast that causes a lot more damage in NL than in limit: calling big bets with second-best hands. An example of non-folditis from Greg's weekly game. Another example from online play. I raised to $10 with AA under the gun, and got four callers. The flop was T52 rainbow and it was checked to me....

A rare chance to make an exact read - nick marden. A rare chance to make an exact read. Mar 11th, 2005 11:46 am. Last night I had a long work night planned, but at around 4 PM I accidentally destroyed the boot sector of the machine I was working on, and since it is located in a cage in California and has no floppy or CDROM drive, I was done working for the night until our ISP could attach an alternate boot device and fix the MBR. So, with a night out already planned. When I looked down and saw Q. And I b...

Limping back in to online play - nick_marden

Limping back in to online play - nick marden. Limping back in to online play. Jan 2nd, 2005 01:00 pm. I haven't played online much in the last few months, ever since I went on an amazing run that took my bankroll from $3 (! I took some time off to evaluate why. I wanted to play short-handed, high-stakes games. Was I ready for it? Probably not. I'm somewhat solid, but not good. In the sense that I would consider my top poker-playing acquaintances good. It's the same reason you don't play a dominated hand ...

March 17th, 2006. Another reason for never starting a blog is that in recent years i haven't had much energy to write. even in this very post, the task of putting together a well-packaged opening statement about my poker life was too much. after a couple of restarts, i decided to just plod right through it. i may not say things exactly how i want, but something i'm trying to learn is how to speak anyway. 2006-03-18 11:14 am (UTC). Posts a comment because I'd really love to know what he thinks about this.

Let Loose the Dogs of Poker!: September 2006

Let Loose the Dogs of Poker! Ramblings on Texas Hold'em, Life, and how the two compete with and complement one another. Saturday, September 30, 2006. The title of this post was going to be "Fun" but PhantomWife hasn't been having a lot of it lately, and because I have had a lot of fun playing poker (and writing about it) "Guilt" is more appropriate, I think. It doesn't help that she doesn't care for poker. And she's not wrong in thinking that my poker playing is eating into our time together. Was a very ...

Let Loose the Dogs of Poker!: October 2006

Let Loose the Dogs of Poker! Ramblings on Texas Hold'em, Life, and how the two compete with and complement one another. Tuesday, October 31, 2006. A lot of stuff happening in the mut's life of late. My mind's not been focused on my poker, and it's shown in my play (and, of course, in my bankroll). I decide to get serious, switch to .01/.02 USD, and discover my head isn't in it enough to play that. Losing a real dollar in a really short time. Then comes the suckout. His Q8 (but they were suited! Last nigh...
