Kevin and I were stunned by the death of Carl while he was diving HMHS Britannic on May 24, this year. If it hadnt been for Carl Spencers open-mindedness we would not have had the opportunity to dive HMHS Britannic, one of the worlds most fantastic shipwrecks. Carl didnt really know me or Kevin, but had heard that we could dive deep and come back with good underwater footage. For the last seven years or so, I have used Sony VX2000 and PD170 miniDV cams. I now have a Sony HVR Z1 Hi Def cam and Gates. Housing with a Fathom Super Wide lens. Video lights are 23W HID Kowalski’s. For surface work I have a Sony high definition HVR-A1E. This is a great little camera but its low light performance is not so good, so it’s not suitable for filming deep dark wrecks. Sitting on the seabed, like unseen museum artifacts, are wrecks which are part of our maritime history. They are seen only by a few privileged individuals.
