All about Japan and its customs! Japan is a very diverse country consisting of more than 3000 islands that run along the pacific coast of Asia. Japan consists of five main islands, which start at the north, Hokkaido and run to the south, Okinawa, with Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in between. Around 70% of Japan is mountainous, which means only a small area is actually suitable for agriculture. Although farming exists in many mountainous areas, the actual percentage of the land used for this is very small.

Hiking / Climbing Mount Fuji. Japan offers many opportunities for hiking with its diverse landscape, no matter what your degree of experience is, you will be able to find just the place for you. Although there are literally thousands of hiking spots all over Japan of varying difficulty, I am only going to concentrate of hiking spots in the prefecture that I am living in as that is where I give hiking tours. Even here in Yamanashi alone there are many many lovely places to go hiking throughout the year.
