http://nathandblair.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Notes from behind the lens. Monday, November 21, 2011. Glidecam vs Merlin and My AF-100. Okay, I know it's been a while. Stop your griping and get over it! Anyway, I don't have much time obviously, so I'm gonna get right down to business and skip all the chit-chat about my love life and what my favorite celebs are up to. BOOM! Look at this weekend's test! Yes, it also tasted delicious). Yes, the Merlin CAN hold my AF-100, along with a mounted lav receiver and shotgun mic! I could not find any rental comp...

CALL TIME:: December 2009
http://nathandblair.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Notes from behind the lens. Sunday, December 13, 2009. Between, wrapping up production at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and an additional day at Chilton Memorial Hospital, I've been spending a lot of time in hospitals! I try to imagine what it must be like to be a patient and catch a video crew at work across the hall. Are we an annoyance, or spectacle? Or "what's this for? Often times we answer sarcastically with "American Idol", "America's Most Wanted", or "just a home video". Links to this post.

CALL TIME:: November 2009
http://nathandblair.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Notes from behind the lens. Thursday, November 19, 2009. With the new cut of the Yellowpages video completed, I waited for a response from Studio Now. This is probably best, because while they're procrastinating, I'm opening a new project and pushing further. Web Design - an enemy and a savior. It's a low paying gig, but it's that $150 closer to rent. Still, these are only proposals, and none of them very promising. I feel lately I've got a great deal of things floating around, waiting for a twist of...

CALL TIME:: June 2012
http://nathandblair.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Notes from behind the lens. Tuesday, June 12, 2012. My New Crazy Friend. When commuting to work via subway, as a DP it's easy to stand out. I like to think others assume that my tripod case holds a sniper rifle, my pelican case holds a large explosive, and my camera backpack is full of illegal substances. More often, though, people assume I'm a musician or from occupy Wall Street. Recently an older man with crazy hair asked if I was carrying a musical instrument. No," I said, "this is just a tripod.".

CALL TIME:: June 2011
http://nathandblair.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Notes from behind the lens. Sunday, June 19, 2011. Today I officially wrapped production on my first feature film as Director of Photography and I am ecstatic! The production wasn’t a glamorous set with truckloads of gear and an army of crew, it was instead very simple. Three crew members, and my own small arsenal of equipment is what we had to work with. Obviously it wasn’t the production value that thrilled me, it was the achievement of a life goal! One foggy morning Joe and I climbed into the back....

CALL TIME:: March 2011
http://nathandblair.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Notes from behind the lens. Friday, March 11, 2011. More on Picture Styles. So just when I thought I had it all figured out with the low contrast picture styles, I found this DSLR Color Grading Seminar video. I guess we're back to pre-grading the image with picture styles! I'm just glad I found this information early in the game. Links to this post. Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Experiment: Putting Wire Behind The Lens. I found that it was almost impossible to straighten the plastic wire. To correct this, ...

CALL TIME:: August 2010
http://nathandblair.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Notes from behind the lens. Monday, August 30, 2010. We stuck around after wrapping, because from our high vantage point we could see the grid-lock traffic, and we weren't about to sit in that! After a couple hours, though, the power finally went out and we realized we'd better get down the elevator with all our gear before the generators run out of steam. Links to this post. Sunday, August 29, 2010. Diagram for the typical interview setup during our 4-day production. Of white paper taped to a flag.

CALL TIME:: February 2011

Notes from behind the lens. Friday, February 25, 2011. Canon 7D Picture Style Tests. I admit that I’m a bit late in experimenting with these picture styles for the Canon EOS series. Regardless, I consider it extremely valuable, and I wanted to explain some tests I did to those who might not completely understand. This image was shot with the default, contrasty settings. So, for example, if the sky in a shot was very bright, and you wanted to darken it just a bit, without detail in the bright information ...

CALL TIME:: September 2010
http://nathandblair.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Notes from behind the lens. Sunday, September 26, 2010. What a busy month! Just after returning home from Puerto Rico, I helped shoot a small project named "Nibble", directed by a talented friend of mine, Phil Giordano. It was more of a workshop piece, since Phil has been curious about working with the new line of Canon DSLR's. Here's a bit about the shoot. I need a monitor. Our last scene was all about improvisation. Due to rain we had to move from an outdoor patio to a very decorative living room&#...

CALL TIME:: April 2011
http://nathandblair.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Notes from behind the lens. Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Fortunately, at about the same time, I had been getting some great work assisting another DP. This kept me occupied, and financially sustained. I shot another green screen video with Capture Your Flag which was a breeze. Raw-footage still from Capture Your Flag's greenscreen shoot. Raw Footage still from CrazyLuLu's newest music video. It feels great to finally be on my feet again. my only hope is that I can stay up here a little while longer.
