Monday, July 18, 2005. A cricket's hairy legs are the insect inspiration for research into helping those with hearing difficulties. The cricket uses the small hairs to listen out for predators. At the University of Twente, in Holland, scientists have recreated similar hairs in laboratories, and there is new hope that one day the hairs can be used in implants to aid those with hearing problems. Friday, May 13, 2005. C is for Cookie. PBS have now announed that the famous Cookie Monster off Sesame Street is going on a diet, including fruit and veg! In one episode, Sesame Street's Hoots the Owl explains the benefits of healthy fruits to Cookie Monster with a song called "A Cookie is a Sometimes Food," in a segment that aired on the children's show in 2004. (See the picture here. People at PBS think the Cookie Monster may have contributed to the current obesity epidemic gripping America’s teens!

Friday, August 26, 2005. The Australian inventor, Jim Walsh, has designed a new 'dog buggy' which takes all the hard work out of dog-walking. The dog is strapped to a harness, which is connected to a wheel-chair structure which you sit on. The buggy comes at the 'bargain price' of 600.
