The 'shoop de doop' of my life as an educator. An oldie but a goodie. A lot of the ideas are from the book, ‘A Repair Kit for Grading: Fifteen Fixes for Broken Grades’ by Ken O’Connor. Don’t include student behavior in grades – use effort grade. One of my co-workers said to me at one of the schools I taught at – I just can’t give him an ‘A’ because he is so disruptive in class! 1 Don’t use extra credit or bonus points. 2 Tests can’t include a bonus ‘challenge’ question. 3 Don’t use group scores in grades!

The 'shoop de doop' of my life as an educator. Today’s Number is? I got this idea from here. I just started using it so I’ll have to see how it goes. I use it as part of my math rotation. The students work on it and mark it themselves and I check it at the end of the lesson to see how they did. We are wrapping up our unit on fractions, percentages, and decimals, so I’ve added all of that for consolidation. The 'shoop de doop' of my life as an educator. After nearly 14 years of teaching, I am leaving my career in elementary teaching. Yesterday was my last day with my students. I have to say, it did not feel as monumental as I thought it would be.
