In 2017, we will bring a fresh new wine experience to the Santa Ynez Valley as we open our estate winery and tasting room to the public. The architecture, designed by the renowned Howard Backen and John Taft, is a rustic but modern homage on the agricultural and equestrian heritage of our valley. August 19, 2014. We’re often asked from where our name, Brave and Maiden, comes. So we thought we’d share a bit about its origin. In the early years of developing this winery, Jason happened to be reading a book on the history of Santa Ynez, Joanne Rife’s. Where the Light Turns Gold. 1977) In it, Rife recounts a legend about a young brave and a young maiden from rival bands who discover one another when the girl saves the boy’s life during a sudden storm at the nearby Nojoqui Falls. The Story of Our Story. April 26, 2015. Last August, we wrote about the origins of our name. Taken from a relatively obscure local legend called “The Legend of Nojoqui.”. The museum was kind enough to share a scan of the poem, below. They approximate the date of this printing to 1921.
