Storm over Tombstone Valley
http://blog.lesterpickerphoto.com/2012/11/10/tombstone-mountain-yukon
Storm over Tombstone Valley. Pasteur said that chance favors the prepared mind. I would say the same about capturing landscape images. I know that the more prepared I am for an assignment, the better the images tend to be. The day was threatening throughout and by mid-day the temps had dropped significantly, even though it was only late August. I thought it might be fruitless to stop for a shoot, but then I reconsidered, made a U-turn (try that in an RV! Printing a Canvas Quadtych. Havre de Grace, MD USA.

Waterscape Gallery
http://blog.lesterpickerphoto.com/gallery/waterscape.html
I have a schizophrenic relationship with waterscapes. As you can see in this gallery, I love capturing images of water scenes. Yet there is always fear associated with those images. Will the next wave be a rogue wave that swamps my valuable gear, let alone me? Am I too close to the cliff’s edge? Will I slip on a mossy rock in the stream that I’m crossing or standing in? Landscape Gallery
http://blog.lesterpickerphoto.com/gallery/landscape.html
I started my career as an 11-year old boy when my father, an accomplished photographer himself, gave me my first camera. In those days it was cityscapes. What else was there to photograph in New York City? As I matured, left the city for the wilds of Maine, and earned an advanced degree in ecology, my career very naturally evolved into landscapes. Then came a stint with National Geographic publications and my commitment to nature photography in its broadest sense. Printing a Canvas Quadtych.

Hillsdale Meadow Aspens
http://blog.lesterpickerphoto.com/2012/08/29/hillsdale-meadow-aspens
I love Alberta, Canada and its awe inspiring National Parks. Both Jasper and Banff National Parks, as well as Kananaskis, are eye candy for the landscape photographer (and not too shabby for wildlife photographers either). I try to get to Alberta at least once every two years, to immerse myself in its beauty. To purchase this Limited Edition Print, please click here. Printing a Canvas Quadtych. Havre de Grace, MD USA.

Wildlife Gallery
http://blog.lesterpickerphoto.com/gallery/wildlife.html
There are few things as exciting, at least to me, as wildlife photography. As an ecologist by training, I love the thrill of watching animals in their natural environments. I have not been to a zoo in more than forty years. My heart pains when I see animals confined, unable to engage their instincts, standing in corners, depressed, or anxiously, pathologically pacing back and forth. What is the story I am trying to tell? Printing a Canvas Quadtych. Havre de Grace, MD USA.

Black And White Gallery
http://blog.lesterpickerphoto.com/gallery/bw.html
There is no doubt in my mind that black and white photography is the most difficult of all. Sound stupid, counter-intuitive? It sure is, except for those of us who do photography professionally. I often wonder about this. Is it because we are bound to our past, to the roots of our art? What we can do, however, is experiment more readily. People often ask me if I shoot the scene as a black and white image or interpret it in post-processing? Printing a Canvas Quadtych. At LPFA our mission is to bring the b...

Travel Gallery
http://lesterpickerphoto.com/gallery/travel.html
I like to travel, perhaps not as much in today’s security obsessed world as I used to. Also, as I get older the rigors of transporting so much heavy equipment takes its toll. Nonetheless, the thrill of seeing new places on our amazing planet, as well as the challenges of interpreting it artistically, keeps me on the road for months every year. Printing a Canvas Quadtych. Pond Sunset
http://www.lesterpickerphoto.com/2012/08/29/pond-sunset-alberta
I am constantly struck by the moments of pure grace that present themselves to us if we are fortunate enough to be tuned in at that moment. Such was the case with the following image. I was with a group of fellow photographers and we had been out since 4:30 AM photographing a mountainscape sunrise (see Rampart Pond Sunrise Limited Edition print) in the spectacular Canadian Rockies.
