The Literary Scene in Chas is Alive and Well… or at Least OK. Since moving to Charleston three years ago, I have whined to my friends back in Charlottesville about the lack of literary events and organizations down here. In C’Ville I was part of a wonderfully supportive organization for writers called WriterHouse. Check out my previous post. On this great place). C’Ville is rich with writers and lovers of the literary arts, with an annual book festival, Virginia Festival of the Book. And you should check...

Books I Wish I’d Written: 2013 – Christy Strick
https://christystrick.com/2013/12/17/books-i-wish-id-written-2013
Books I Wish I’d Written: 2013. 2013 has been an amazing year for books. I’ve read so many incredible ones, and there are many I haven’t gotten to yet that I’ve heard are equally wonderful. There were a few I was disappointed in (sorry, Messud fans, but I hated. But this was definitely a good year for readers of literary fiction. But before my list, I do want to plug some of the books that I fell in love with, even if they are not the books I would write, even if I could. The Valley of Amazement. Tea Obr...
Take a Book..Leave a Book – Christy Strick
https://christystrick.com/2013/04/03/take-a-book-leave-a-book
Take a Book.Leave a Book. A month ago I went on a carriage ride through Charleston with a friend, and this particular ride took us on a route I rarely travel in the city. It wasn’t my favorite route that’s down by the Battery but it was pretty, and I saw some things I’d never seen before. I’d heard about Little Free Libraries, but didn’t know there was one in Charleston. I really had no idea what an amazing organization it is until I did a little research. Little Free Library. Check out their website.

Truthfully, I expected her to be in jail by now.”. A non-profit writing center in Charlottesvllle, Virginia. Since opening,...

All my bookish friends, both readers and writers, those smart, interesting souls who love good stories and encourage me to try to write them. I have...
