This week has flown by in a flash. Suddenly we’re more than halfway through the summer holidays. How did that happen? We haven’t even bought new school shoes yet! We brought the table home and immediately sanded the top down. I’ve been wanting a scrubbed kitchen table for ages. Our old one was varnished and you couldn’t put anything down on it so it was always covered in an oilcloth. The new table looks perfect and I love it. You really can’t go wrong for 20, can you? Just need to sort the chairs out now.

Wildlife spotting in the garden, plus a vlog! There’s so much going on in the garden at this time of year. In even the smallest outdoor space you can spot all sorts of bugs, insects and other wildlife. You don’t have to look hard: just pause for a moment and it will come wiggling, buzzing, creeping or fluttering its way to you. This summer BEAR nibbles. Have partnered with the Wildlife Trust to encourage children to get out in the fresh air. Each box of yummy BEAR paws. A pair of binoculars of course!

A mini camping adventure…. Last year I finally got over my fear of camping and we invested in a family tent. We went on a few trips and the boys. Just get on with it. And have a night under canvas. As we’d left the booking until the last minute, our favourite campsite at Sandringham, in Norfolk, was fully booked as were all the similar sites nearby. The easiest apple pudding. We’re approaching the beginning of May, but winter has made an unexpected return this week. Icy winds are ruffling the pink blossom, and we’ve even had a bit of snow. Three things I’m loving this week. I’ve had a really busy week with visits to Norwich, London and Cambridge and barely had time to draw breath. Ruth’s honey flapjack. A while ago my mother-in-law, Ruth, gave me her recipe for honey flapjack. It’s a really nice recipe that’s relatively low in sugar and has a deliciously mild, subtle taste. I do love a sticky, golden-syrup laden flapjack, but sometimes you want something a little less cloying – and these fit the bill nicely. 55g soft brown sugar. 1 Set oven to 180. 2 Grease a small, shallow baking tin. 3 Melt butter, honey and sugar in a pan over a gentle heat.
