Oh That Reminds Me...: July 2009
http://emilyschoen.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 26, 2009. I think my age has caught up with my intellect. More frequently than ever, I find myself walking into a room and suddenly thinking to myself, “now why did I come in here? You’ve heard of putting a string around your finger to help you remember something? Once I did that and couldn’t for the life of me remember why that string was there! I’m constantly writing myself little notes; otherwise I lose stuff amongst the crowded cobwebs of my multitasking mind. There are tricks to improvi...

Oh That Reminds Me...: May 2009
http://emilyschoen.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2009. Why can’t everyone drive like me? Not to brag, but I’ve been at it for 32-plus years, and I’ve never had an accident. My acceptance speech at the Oscars of Driving would start with: “I’d like to thank the members of the academy, my high school driver’s ed. teacher and all the terrible drivers who are constant reminders of how not to drive.”. You, too, can win:. Always aim for a cushion of air between your car and any other vehicle. The more the better! 5 Stay Away — Nirvana. Lately,...

Oh That Reminds Me...: February 2009
http://emilyschoen.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 21, 2009. I can tell you any number of places I’d want to be on a sunny, unexpectedly warm February afternoon, but sitting inside hashing out the future needs of aging East Tennesseans wouldn’t be one of them. Yet there they were last Thursday. A group of close to 100 kind souls who cared enough to… well, care. That day the John T. O’Connor Senior Center. 8221; as well as “Where do we go from here? And ongoing efforts to prosecute harshly those criminals preying on seniors. Using priva...

Oh That Reminds Me...: Songs for Sickies
http://emilyschoen.blogspot.com/2009/11/songs-for-sickies.html
Sunday, November 15, 2009. Seems like everyone you talk to is either sick, has been sick, feels like they're getting sick, or knows someone who's been sick. Here's a little musical guide for those of you suffering from "The Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu" (Dr. John). Beds are Burning" (Midnight Oil) because you're feverish. First it's like a "Heat Wave" (Martha and the Vandellas), and then you’ll bundle up against that feeling of a “Cold Cold Heart” (Hank Williams). Try not to overdo it, and...

Oh That Reminds Me...: August 2009
http://emilyschoen.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 30, 2009. I've Got a Feeling. We’ve all had days when even the simplest task is like pulling teeth. Your air conditioner breaks down. You run out of milk. You’re late to work. Admittedly, these aren’t earth-shaking events, but they’re just enough to make you feel like everything’s working against you. It’s like a metaphysical burr has stuck itself in your side and won’t let go. I call that feeling ickiness. Like a rusty hatchet. For all we know, ickiness may just be a part of the natural o...

Oh That Reminds Me...: September 2009
http://emilyschoen.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 27, 2009. All this rain we’ve had reminds me of when I lived on Cape Cod one summer. It was a different kind of humidity, but vexing all the same. Towels never got a chance to dry out before you had to use them again. Doors and windows swelled stuck. Here in East Tennessee, little puddles have grown and gained permanency to the point where you could more properly call them ponds. And of course, the mosquitoes have had a field day. The little stinkers are thick this year! 7 The Rain Song...
