You can see how big they are- one of the missionaries is crouched inside the Б. Going to see the letters was one of the first things new missionaries to Barnaul wanted to do on a P-day. Sunday, November 27, 2011. We had a nice Thanksgiving Day. It was a mini-holiday for the missionaries. They came over after morning studies. While we were putting the finishing touches on dinner, they started watching "The Great Race" (Dave's favorite movie). They took a break when dinner was ready. We had roasted chicken in lieu of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy. A few of them snuck in naps before leaving about 6:00 to do Gospel English. All in all it was a very nice day. A year ago when we moved to Novokuznetsk we requested two things for our apartment that we were told weren't necessary: a room air conditioner for our bedroom ("it doesn't get that hot in Novokuznetsk"), and a small water heater for when the hot water pipes get shut down for repairs in the summer ("the city is redoing the system and the water won't be shut off"). The US dollar became very strong against the Russian ruble and before you knew it, we were getting almost twice the amount of rubles to dollars!
