I figure if you have to carry a cane it may as well look cool. We found a hand made one last year. I want to share some tips for staying hydrated when you have Sickle Cell. Thursday, July 1, 2010. Five bucks and a cup of tea. It is amazing what pleasure can be derived from five bucks and a cup of tea. I was in Walgreens and picked up on clearance a speaker in a little zipper case for 5 bucks. This little thing runs on 3 AAA baterries and I can plug my I-POD into and wow music! I am taking a leave of absence form the news . A cup of herbal tea and all is right in the world at this minute in time. Peace a cool breeze and the quiet of the night. I am guilty of endless worry.

Friday, October 12, 2012. It has been sometime between posts. I am in graduate school and work many many hours. But recently I had the time of my life. I took a vacation . I had the opportunity to spend time on the beach in the south of Spain. I was in the Atlantic Ocean , wore a big floppy sun hat , drank fabulous cold drinks , coffee and watched Flamenco! WOW the sand was hot and the water felt soft. 11 days 3 climates , 3 countries and a really BIG suitcase! After leaving Spain we flew to London!

What is Sickle Cell Disease? Normal red blood cells are soft and round (A in image below). Which allows them to pass through the blood vessels with ease. Someone who is affected by the sickle cell disorder has blood cells that are misshaped and sticky (B in image below). The cells are no longer round and pliable (soft) and will clump to block the veins and arteries, making it difficult for blood to pass through. No Fear, Just Facts.
